I haven't heard of IPDSL

2019-10-06 10:50:38 UTC

is that some sort of brand name in the US?

2019-10-06 10:50:49 UTC

ah seems to be AT&T specific naming

2019-10-06 10:51:13 UTC

IP-based DSL? To my understanding this is the standard name for the next generation of DSL

2019-10-06 10:51:36 UTC

ah ok

2019-10-06 10:51:38 UTC

can you explain it?

2019-10-06 10:52:06 UTC

ah I found it, IPDSL is ADSL 2 +, double play only

2019-10-06 10:53:05 UTC

which is the ITU-T G.992.5 standard

2019-10-06 10:53:28 UTC

Somewhat...A (asynchronus) DSL doesn't use matching bitstreams for data transmission where IPDSL does. To make matters worse IPDSL can be installed using a bonded pair profile so now you not only have one pair of cables in sychrony but FOUR...bonded pair, in this market, is the bane of my existence because I've yet to find two pair of phone lines that are similar in quality

2019-10-06 10:54:01 UTC

So we do what we can

2019-10-06 10:55:19 UTC

ah ok

2019-10-06 10:55:49 UTC

what speeds do you guys assure the customer of with IPDSL?

2019-10-06 10:56:15 UTC

So check this out...in our single pair markets 18 Mbps is the absolute fastest we can provide and only if you live within 5k ft of the central office

2019-10-06 10:56:58 UTC

I had an opportunity to work in a more developed market (i.e. big city) a couple of years back and our full fiber installs were getting 1000 Mbps

2019-10-06 10:57:47 UTC

yeah the theoretical max for IPDSL is 24 Mbit/s so 18 Mbit/s seems to be close to what is practically achievable with that technology

2019-10-06 10:57:50 UTC

Alright, bud...good chat. I've gotta get to the 'office' now. I'm neurotic about being on time so I leave 50 minutes early to drive six miles

2019-10-06 10:57:54 UTC

ah good bye

2019-10-06 10:58:08 UTC

Hold up a tick...

2019-10-06 10:58:09 UTC

nice chat yes

2019-10-06 10:59:36 UTC

I've personally installed 35 Mbps as a single pair service...out of a VRAD of course but still...kinda slow considering my personal connection through the cable company is 425 Mbps

2019-10-06 11:00:32 UTC

The bonded pair installs have the benefit of a higher top end but I'm fairly confident the top end on that is much better than 100 mbps...that's a copper, two phone line install

2019-10-06 11:00:40 UTC

Ok, now I'm out!

Why am I not surprised that this is happening in China?

2019-10-06 12:37:35 UTC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1WI8BUe9Eg @conker y'all laugh at the dystopia that is less than a decade away. get ready

2019-10-06 12:42:02 UTC

Oh and... Seems HK called out a revolution

2019-10-06 12:55:46 UTC

@Happy Humble Hermit also I'm not laughing, I just demand sources, bc the claims are sometimes outlandish ...

but I totally expect such stuff from an officially authoritarian government like china

2019-10-06 12:58:29 UTC

and the HK people have now a ban on wearing face coverings
so they have some quite interesting solutions
