2020-06-16 19:14:32 UTC

ill take your word on it

2020-06-16 19:14:35 UTC

the looks match

2020-06-17 22:30:06 UTC

What's the problem with bestiality?

2020-06-17 22:30:19 UTC

It brings enjoyment both for the person and for the animal

2020-06-17 22:30:29 UTC

yet, it is prohibited in many countries

2020-06-17 23:06:51 UTC

the same reason we ban necrophilia, because we consider those who do it to be disgusting and inferior and wish to punish them for it

2020-06-17 23:11:08 UTC

this is kind of irrational, don't you agree?

2020-06-17 23:11:31 UTC

by definition, it rational

2020-06-17 23:11:52 UTC

I would say that it is rationalized, but not rational

2020-06-17 23:12:28 UTC

rationality is just doing whats best for your interest, it just so happens that its in our interest to punish bestiality and necrophilia

2020-06-17 23:14:08 UTC

I would say that something rational is something that isn't based in how your fell, but what you that's right

2020-06-17 23:14:56 UTC

And I think that most people wouldn't agree in prohibiting something that harms no one, just because you don't like it

2020-06-17 23:15:26 UTC

not in a rational way

2020-06-17 23:16:07 UTC

what you 'know' that's right is nothing more than a moral imperative and is ultimately informed by nothing more than those 'feelings'

2020-06-17 23:16:44 UTC

well... I guess I agree with this

2020-06-17 23:16:45 UTC

there is no base morality to appeal to outside of those preferences unless you believe in the supernatural

2020-06-17 23:17:19 UTC

as you can see by my agnostic role, I don't belive in it

2020-06-17 23:17:29 UTC

so what you set as your moral imperative, or even what you define as 'harm' is irrelevant to whether its rational to pursue it

2020-06-17 23:18:12 UTC

as long as you pursue your moral imperative / interest, you are behaving rationally

2020-06-17 23:19:39 UTC

But... I think that most of us would tell to ourselves "I wouldn't want to punish someone that does something that harm no one just because I don't like it" and, at the same that, say "SEND THOSE NECROPHILES TO THE JAIL!"

2020-06-17 23:19:42 UTC

That's irrational

2020-06-17 23:20:26 UTC

something that's based in what you fell that's right, in contradiction with what you think that's right.

2020-06-17 23:20:27 UTC

no it isnt, that's just people with different moral interests having conflicting views and committing a bandwagon fallacy to go along with the consensus.

2020-06-17 23:22:25 UTC

like why do you care about not intervening in peoples lives if theyre not harming anyone? It's ahistorical to our past and doesn't have a scientific basis. Its just your preference not to and for me that could be as irrational to my interests as jailing necrophiles is to yours.

2020-06-17 23:24:13 UTC

and even going further, many people define harm entirely informed by there preference. Hell, just look at how people view 'hate speech', discrimination and so on which are the products of individual choice of words and association.

2020-06-17 23:24:33 UTC

If someone thinks as you, "sending people that I don't like to jail is ok" and send people he don't like to the jail, that's rational. But if someone thinks like me "sending people that I don't like to the jail is not ok" but send them to the jail anyway, that's irrational.
