Ham Radio for sure. Sat phones I would assume would be monitored and probably taken do if shit gets crazy. I would just make sure you have back up coms with anyone close to you. Best thing I can say is make sure you have some supplies and a plan setup for anything crazy. I am not saying this to scare anyone and I get no benefit from it. I hope I am wrong, but it does look like violence is coming. So make sure you have ammo, guns, food, and medical supplies, and a radio. Nothing crazy, just an emergency kit if you will.
