If he wanted to do something about China, he would have made private industry pay for the cost of protecting the shipping lanes. There is no way that it is cheaper to make our goods in China, if they had to pay for the policing of the shipping lanes across the Pacific. The American Taxpayer foots that bill for the privilege of moving our manufacturing jobs overseas.

I think that with more effective leadership, we could have been back to work a long time - with just a little creativity. We should have enacted a "war time" posture with things like laws against profiteering. Companies that were allowed to stay open could have had excess profits taxed in order to help offset those companies that had to stay closed. Those funds could have been used to pay businesses to close, if they were deemed to need to be closed or they could have been funds to help put things in place to make them safer. Leadership should have encouraged mask wearing from the start - instead of politicizing it.
