Stupid auto spell! Sorry KAYYY, LOL
I think Gerhardt's video above is a bit misguided. Yes, there are examples of anger as result of great fear _[of coronavirus]_, but I challenge Gerhardt or anyone else to prove that it stems from some sort of inexplicable, inherent racism that someone has against the Chinese people or culture.
I sure as hell wouldn't be running around China for no reason, without the highest quality mask I could get my hands on. Even then, I would be limiting my outings to only what were absolutely mandatory.
It is certainly very foolish to be traipsing around coronavirus ground zero, as if it were any other day, trying to prove some silly theory that because during perhaps the biggest pandemic since the Spanish Flu, we think twice when we see a Chinese tourist, and that somehow makes us xenophobic.
.
Underhanded attempts to conflate rational, logical thought processes with bullshit, modern, politically correct terminology, and the resulting depiction of entire other groups, people, and cultures as xenophobic is more offensive than someone who might actually be xenophobic.
.
I don't understand how so many people not only latch themselves onto this very strange sort of imaginary self-guilt, but also insist that it be attached to everyone else, otherwise it proves that you must be xenophobic or racist.
.
I don't subscribe to that garbage, and I certainly won't subscribe to that YouTube channel pushing that bullshit.
.
Also, if you don't believe that people should have the right to express themselves and their concern, in public, even if many disagree, then who you are is diametrically opposed to who I am.
.
And yes, you are alternatively allowed to express your disagreement with them on YouTube, for all the world to see..
From what I saw in the video, those locals holding the banner in front of the hotel in Indonesia were 100% peaceful and quiet. I suspect that if a video of them being loud, obnoxious, and aggressive were available, then you would have used that, instead. Ergo, they were not loud, obnoxious, or aggressive.
Regarding the Japanese shop that put up the sign disallowing Chinese into their shop, I just got this from a native Chinese friend of mine in the USA who I showed that exact sign to:
> Today at 4:07 _"This is to forbid Chinese to enter the store in fear of the coronavirus. It’s a note with some kind of racial prejudice due to the epidemic. But I can understand people’s fear. Now I don’t go out much even though I am not in China. I also stay away from other Chinese. 😬"_
.
Perhaps you would next posit that because of his statement, my Chinese friend is xenophobic against his own people.
.
Or perhaps you would simply come to your senses and recognize that in very deadly, life-threatening situations, we must all take precautions, even if the resulting situation becomes slightly uncomfortable for a short time.
Perhaps your ultimate proof that you yourself aren't xenophobic would be for you to go volunteer to care for coronavirus patients right there in China, where you already are. Maybe if you don't fully embrace your round-eye western guilt, someone might think that you are xenophobic.
God forbid what someone might think of us for taking perhaps uncomfortable precautions against the spread of a very deadly virus.

Apologies for the rant, but I felt that it needed to be said.
