no, it's because they are using a old kindle paperwhite, which is text only. My book contains color and illustrations, so requires a Kindle Fire or smart device, but not the old kindle text-only devices

@Turd Flinging Monkey The Kindle Paperwhite isn’t an old device. It’s black and white because it uses something called “E-Paper” which is supposed to reduce eye strain and also allows you to see it clearly for reading in bright sunlight. I can’t see my phone very well if it’s sunny outside but I can see my kindle clear as day. It would be pretty cool if you optimized your book for the paperwhite, as it’s one of the most liked E-Readers.
