Honestly, coincidence. It’s extremely surprising, given it probably never happened in 20 years, given Google systems are usually redundant 6 or 9 times, but major outages happen.

Although that could prevent someone from accessing their email in time, prevent from from printing a PDF in time for a court. This is far more damaging than the search being absent. But again, that sounds gross, when they could pretend to have downtime on a single gmail account of that lawyer and still make it look legit.
