See this kind of thing makes me want to push harder on using gender specific words. Tell me it's actor not actor/actress . . . I use actor and actress as much as possible (example from years ago). Tell me it's parent . . . I'm going to do my best to eliminate usage of the word parent from my vocabulary except when absolutely necessary. Use mother and father and variations almost exclusively. Tell me it's siblings, not brother and sister . . . well, I will do my best to say brother and sisters when I refer to my siblings and never use the singular sibling at all, because why should I. Try to tell me it's sibling's child and I will tell you about how much I love my niece and nephews and also about how stupid I think your usage of the English language is in that moment in time.
This is all so dumb, but the scary part is they are dead serious and they want to take these words out of our vocabulary. These are NOT bad words. They are good words, comforting words, happy words, familial words. If I was someone who swore, this would be time I would be doing it, because in times like this using the words they don't want us to use is one of the ways we can and should fight back.
