I rewrote the fairy godmother into a Maleficent type character paired with Bellatrix's looks and insanity and a bit of Mother Gothel

She promises a cure for Ella's sisters in exchange for Ella assasinating the prince. She also adds fuel to the fire by lying and saying that the royal family has a cure but is keeping it to themselves.

Reality - literally everyone has the plague. They began the ball as a way to have fun before everyone dies.

There is no cure because it's the godmother's plague to begin with

Still working out why she would have enough power to literally start a plague and not enough to assassinate the royal family herself but

Maybe give her a reason to have to keep the family alive?

I didn't really write a full on plague until after COVID and lockdowns made me realize the ball is a plothole last night so it's still pretty sloppy writing at this point

Get some ideas, start with a setting, and a plot. Characterization + Plot is good, but don't 100% make the plot about a specific Character.
