What does everyone think of military animals? Not just in modern war but in historical war?

2020-09-12 08:56:24 UTC

I think they played an interesting role

2020-09-12 08:57:22 UTC

Could argue that they built some empires too, like the Mongols

2020-09-12 08:58:40 UTC

Yeah

2020-09-12 12:33:43 UTC

Cats, dogs, and pigeons all played important roles in warfare of the past, mostly in the realm of message delivering and communications

Horses also played a huge part

2020-09-12 15:24:20 UTC

horses are a given, as well as elephants lol. I never heard of cats being used like that though. dogs and pigeons are definitely under credited. there are some rare historical accounts of actual war dogs being used in battle, but a lot of the time theyd be more like K9 units in police force or military where they play a support role but can also engage the enemy if needed. thats why some of those weirder breeds of smaller dogs were really popular, because they were incredible trackers. Humans can do the fighting, but most of us suck shit at the tracking part compared to even an untrained dog. There are accounts of a lot of different kinds of weird animals being used in war. I believe there was a dolphin used at some point in ancient history? I havent researched animals used in warfare very thoroughly, but its really interesting. I mean, in more modern history they tried to come up with an idea where they would use pigeons to guide missiles. stick a pigeon in the tip of a missile with a screen and a camera, the pigeon (mightve also been a chicken) would be trained to peck at certain things and that was their idea of a guided missile.

Dogs were used to sniff out landmines. Smaller breeds probably wouldn't set them off.

2020-09-12 15:35:37 UTC

Nowadays Giant African pouched rats are used for the same purpose.

2020-09-12 15:36:12 UTC

didn't the U.S.A try and use bats to set japan on fire. during world war 2

Anyone think there is a possibility that Iran could carry out an assassination tomorrow, the same day of the Israeli-Arab peace signing?

2020-09-15 01:28:25 UTC

who knows, its a possibility, but i would not dwell and think of it but i would not be surprised if it happened

2020-09-15 01:53:13 UTC

Why did it send twice? That is odd, because I know I’ve checked a few times and it was not duplicated.

2020-09-15 02:52:03 UTC

It happens sometimes depending on your internet or Discord's servers
