Well I guess for my parents it's worth it just for the moonshine lol. There's 4 guys on the lease that make homemade moonshine so theres always plenty.
@Lil 270 is a bad joke, too much powder for such a tiny projectile, they'll run for days before dying unless you hit them *just* right. 30-06 is nice but gets a little bit inaccurate over 250 yards, .308 is probably the most balanced for mid-longe range rifles, it does well up to around 350-400 yards but also has good knockdown even at close range. if you're looking for really long range(300+ yards) and accurate with good knock down, 300 mag does well. If you're looking at those 500++ yard shots i can't help ya, I've never really looked into that
The moonshine is kinda goofy my family goes hunting one out of enjoyment and two because we are going to eat em
@Happy_Kakapo it happens. I've been there myself. The first doe I got this year could have been a button for all I knew, I was just way too excited for my first bow kill. It looked bigger in the scope than when I walked up to it
The key is to learn from those mistakes.
@Lil I forgot to mention the 30-30, it's a good close range/bush gun, but loses accuracy quickly as you get over 100 yards. Even 150 yards is a tough shot with 30-30.
I am looking for Rocky mountain elk and blacktail
so its bweetween 30/06 and 270 WIN for me
I'd say 300 mag or 30-06.
Depending on your range
.308 is great for 300+ yards but i don't know about the knockdown it would have on elk
The punch
I can promise the 270 would be terrible
Even a direct heart shot would put a hole smaller than a pencil thru it
They'd run and bleed for days
Ik a 30/06 can eassly take down a elk
They've got great impact and do major damage, just wonder about the range for elk hunting. If you're looking at 300+ yards might want to look into 300 mag
Only elk hunts I've watched were deep in the mountains, high range shots
Can't remember what they were using, been awhile
Cause when you get nothing during gun season, you start thinking, “ c’mon I want to at least get something” and you’re willing to shoot most everything to fill the freezer.
I saw 3 does this season but haven't got anything and it's near the end so next deer or pig I see is getting blasted no matter how small it is.
I’ve never taken a shot at a deer more than 60+ yards max
Now if it's a baby I'm not going to shoot it but you get what I mean
Does a yearling fill the freezer tho
Well at least it's something
@KungFlu BatSoup where the heck u hunting? And what the heck are you doing that you've only seen 3 does?
@Meatball by fort polk louisiana
Yeah it doesn’t fill the freezer, but you don’t want to go season without getting anything. But, I’ve shot a yearling before and I’m not doing that again.
Public or private track?
Private
Acreage?
@Milkgamer55 was the time cleaning not worth the meat you get?
400 I believe
How many hunters on it?
35
Yeah, it wasn’t worth getting to the guts, for the amount meat. Besides I felt bad for shooting a a small one
Well there's your problem. Lmao
Wayyyy too much pressure.
I think it's more that 400 the man just owns 400 acres and rents some from logging companys to
