This tiny whitetail yearling I got tonight can't really see it in the pictures but antlers haven't even poked through the hide

2020-12-05 01:57:32 UTC

Why did you kill it then

2020-12-05 01:57:49 UTC

Some people are wayyyy to trigger happy

2020-12-05 02:00:45 UTC

Well when you pay 1500 dollars a year for a deer lease we make sure to kill something.

2020-12-05 02:00:49 UTC

Thought it was a doe didn't realize it was that young

2020-12-05 02:03:33 UTC

Well I guess for my parents it's worth it just for the moonshine lol. There's 4 guys on the lease that make homemade moonshine so theres always plenty.

2020-12-05 02:05:22 UTC

@Lil᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼ 270 is a bad joke, too much powder for such a tiny projectile, they'll run for days before dying unless you hit them *just* right. 30-06 is nice but gets a little bit inaccurate over 250 yards, .308 is probably the most balanced for mid-longe range rifles, it does well up to around 350-400 yards but also has good knockdown even at close range. if you're looking for really long range(300+ yards) and accurate with good knock down, 300 mag does well. If you're looking at those 500++ yard shots i can't help ya, I've never really looked into that

2020-12-05 02:06:23 UTC

The moonshine is kinda goofy my family goes hunting one out of enjoyment and two because we are going to eat em

2020-12-05 02:07:32 UTC

@Happy_Kakapo it happens. I've been there myself. The first doe I got this year could have been a button for all I knew, I was just way too excited for my first bow kill. It looked bigger in the scope than when I walked up to it

2020-12-05 02:07:41 UTC

The key is to learn from those mistakes.

2020-12-05 02:14:14 UTC

@Lil᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼᲼ I forgot to mention the 30-30, it's a good close range/bush gun, but loses accuracy quickly as you get over 100 yards. Even 150 yards is a tough shot with 30-30.

I am looking for Rocky mountain elk and blacktail

so its bweetween 30/06 and 270 WIN for me

2020-12-05 02:16:15 UTC

I'd say 300 mag or 30-06.

2020-12-05 02:16:33 UTC

Depending on your range

2020-12-05 02:17:09 UTC

.308 is great for 300+ yards but i don't know about the knockdown it would have on elk

2020-12-05 02:17:23 UTC

The punch

2020-12-05 02:17:43 UTC

I can promise the 270 would be terrible

2020-12-05 02:18:02 UTC

Even a direct heart shot would put a hole smaller than a pencil thru it

2020-12-05 02:18:12 UTC

They'd run and bleed for days

Ik a 30/06 can eassly take down a elk

2020-12-05 02:28:24 UTC

They've got great impact and do major damage, just wonder about the range for elk hunting. If you're looking at 300+ yards might want to look into 300 mag

2020-12-05 02:29:42 UTC

Only elk hunts I've watched were deep in the mountains, high range shots

2020-12-05 02:30:06 UTC

Can't remember what they were using, been awhile

Deer truck go brrr

2020-12-05 04:11:59 UTC

Cause when you get nothing during gun season, you start thinking, “ c’mon I want to at least get something” and you’re willing to shoot most everything to fill the freezer.

2020-12-05 04:13:08 UTC

I saw 3 does this season but haven't got anything and it's near the end so next deer or pig I see is getting blasted no matter how small it is.

2020-12-05 04:13:24 UTC

I’ve never taken a shot at a deer more than 60+ yards max

2020-12-05 04:13:42 UTC

Now if it's a baby I'm not going to shoot it but you get what I mean

2020-12-05 04:15:16 UTC

Does a yearling fill the freezer tho

2020-12-05 04:16:35 UTC

Well at least it's something

2020-12-05 04:17:31 UTC

@KungFlu BatSoup where the heck u hunting? And what the heck are you doing that you've only seen 3 does?

2020-12-05 04:17:49 UTC

@Meatball by fort polk louisiana

2020-12-05 04:18:05 UTC

Yeah it doesn’t fill the freezer, but you don’t want to go season without getting anything. But, I’ve shot a yearling before and I’m not doing that again.

2020-12-05 04:18:15 UTC

Public or private track?

2020-12-05 04:18:24 UTC

Private

2020-12-05 04:18:52 UTC

Acreage?

2020-12-05 04:18:55 UTC

@Milkgamer55 was the time cleaning not worth the meat you get?

2020-12-05 04:19:17 UTC

400 I believe

2020-12-05 04:19:35 UTC

How many hunters on it?
