I feel like a lot of schools aren't teaching more then American history after 1888 (and then skip to 1950s). I've noticed most of the high schoolers at my school don't know anything about history and still choose to talk about politics. I literally asked who won the Civil War and they looked at me like I was crazy and said that it was George Washington's side.

there are many lost stories about the Civil War, during and before it, in part due to some burning and destruction of documents and journals confiscated from one side after the war was over
