oh, wait, I do own a Browning Hi Power!

2020-07-11 18:10:39 UTC

Why tho

2020-07-11 18:10:55 UTC

I don't know much about them

2020-07-11 18:11:22 UTC

Hi Power in 9mm vs a 45 1911, no match there. The Hi Power wins handily

2020-07-11 18:11:41 UTC

Lots of 1911s come in 9mm though

2020-07-11 18:11:46 UTC

😅

2020-07-11 18:12:15 UTC

Yes but then it really isn't a 1911. It's like taking a VW Beetle and stick a Porche badge on it

2020-07-11 18:13:06 UTC

Hmm

2020-07-11 18:13:37 UTC

Hi Power = greater ammo capacity, better recoil management, better accuracy

2020-07-11 18:13:50 UTC

AND lowers cost per round

2020-07-11 18:14:17 UTC

I've only shot my mom's 9mm and my dad's .45 2 times each and I can handle the recoil for the 9mm better than the .45 but if I trained I could handle the .45 better. I like the size of the .45 but shot placement is better than size if you miss...

2020-07-11 18:14:25 UTC

but then Hi Powers are essentially obsolete not too

2020-07-11 18:14:45 UTC

9mm is also much flatter shooting than 45

2020-07-11 18:15:14 UTC

45 has a markedly lower muzzle velocity = more bullet drop over distance

2020-07-11 18:15:54 UTC

True true

2020-07-11 18:17:42 UTC

Everybody "handles" the 9mm recoil better. Because there's less. Physics, yo.

2020-07-11 18:18:11 UTC

And from 9 through .45, there's no real difference on how it affects whatever's in front of the muzzle.

2020-07-11 18:18:16 UTC

it's another one of those....what's comfortable and effective for you.....go with what you like!

2020-07-11 18:18:51 UTC

I do like me a Hi Power, too. Didn't realize how low the bore axis is. It's like the thing almost doesn't have recoil.

2020-07-11 18:19:18 UTC

That and, with an all metal frame, the mass soaks up the recoil energy

2020-07-11 18:21:16 UTC

That's why my Sig P238 is such a great gun even though it's such a small gun. The P238 weighs almost as much as my Shield 9 but fires 380 rounds, it's a joy to shoot.....and it's pocket gun sized

2020-07-11 18:50:53 UTC

@Sage only with hollow points. FMJ is a different story. The .45 imparts more energy into the target than the 9mm. Physics, yo. Either way you are over penetrating. However the slower .45 with its larger surface area will impart more energy into the target.

And those 8 rd mags weigh less than my SD40 mags. I carry 4 8rd mags and have more capacity than my 40 with an extra mag in the same space.

And one more thing, almost every pistol is modeled after the 1911. So its not as bad as you think.

Love the gun drummer. His old videos are better tho.. his new ones aren't that good.

@Ironman Energy in handgun calibers is pathetic. They poke holes in an elastic medium. The wounds are indistinguishable by caliber. Real world stats back it up - failure to stop, one shot stop, etc., there's functionally no difference between 9, .40, .45.

Most pistols are evolved from Browning's designs (hard not to considering the guy invented the slide), not the 1911 in particular. And evolved is an important term there. The internal workings of a Glock or Sig are pretty damn far removed from the 1911. My Sig probably has half as many moving parts as a 1911 does, and that's something that makes a big difference in places like cost to produce, reliability, ease of service and durability.

2020-07-11 19:09:49 UTC

BTW, you actually carry FMJ? Bro...

2020-07-11 19:24:36 UTC

Lol!

2020-07-11 19:24:47 UTC

Yeah, they go through doors better than hollows

2020-07-11 19:25:24 UTC

I alternate hollow and fmj in my pistol mags

2020-07-11 19:30:08 UTC

@[TDE] Smokie That kind of thing is where the FBI tests come in handy. They show how bullets perform through barriers. Very educational. I settled on Federal HST for me.

Though I do keep a loaded 20 round mag of FMJ somewhere in my truck. It's my "angry mob" mag (not like we got a problem with those lately) which is a situation where IDGAF about overpenetration.

2020-07-11 19:32:06 UTC

Lmfao

2020-07-11 20:02:34 UTC

@Sage You do realize the FBI test was with Hollow Points yeah?

You need to work as an EMT or join the army as a medic before you attempt to lecture me on ballistic wounds. Ballistic gel is not flesh. Does not have bone. Does not have blood vessels. There is a reason I carry a .45 over my SD40 .40 or my G2C 9mm. It comes down to accuracy and inertia. My 1911 is the most accurate pistol in my arsenal, capable of hitting a 9" target at 100 yards, and has the energy to go through a 55 gallon drum whereas the .40 and 9mm are stopped.

Ill bet 10 bucks that your sig has just as many moving parts as my 1911. Remember, I work as a gunsmith.

2020-07-11 20:28:49 UTC

Yes, the FBI tests with hollow points. They're testing for optimal defensive capabilities, and sorry, FMJ doesn't fit the bill.

No, ballistic gel is not flesh. But roll a GSW victim into an ER and the doc won't be able to tell you what caliber the holes are from.

The inertia is, again, nothing to write home about, and the differences in pistol calibers are negligible. And energy or inertia are not primary wounding mechanisms anyway.

You really want to lose $10 that easily?

2020-07-11 20:53:48 UTC

Skin being as elastic as it is, that doesn't really work... All the holes end up looking the same.

2020-07-11 20:55:12 UTC

I mean if they say it does then it does... Does it not?

2020-07-11 21:02:48 UTC

@[TDE] Smokie what about this lol

"hey guys lets see what happens when I hold this gun horribly one handed lol what could possibly go wrong!"

2020-07-11 21:10:05 UTC

How did you get video evidence of chaz's military training

2020-07-11 21:12:47 UTC

I have my ways
