Wow thats a nice optic. I agree its a bit pricey. We have a bushnell on our shelf for 499. Its a 3-9 x 40. Nice for hunting but I wouldnt use it for competition. I use a cheap Osprey 4x fixed for 149. Holds tight groups

2020-10-09 11:33:27 UTC

I prefer fixed zoom on my optics. The variable zoom usually causes a slight parallax error from the smallest to largest zoom settings. Most competition shooters also use fixed optics.

2020-10-09 11:34:07 UTC

Thats also why I can get away with a cheaper scope and still maintain reasonable results.

2020-10-09 12:11:58 UTC

@Ironman gotcha ill do some more research seems like there is a lot to consider

2020-10-09 12:20:09 UTC

My goat gun is coming on sunday or saturday.

2020-10-09 12:23:31 UTC

@Odb There are always trade offs. Fixed optics are just that, fixed. So if you are taking shots closer than 100 meters or farther than say 300 meters, 4x zoom is not the best. It all depends on what you are wanting to do. I wont be taking shots beyond 400 meters with a 5.56. Too much drop and not enough energy beyond that to be effective. I know they say 5.56 is good to 800 meters but the drop is pushing the boundaries of any optic as well as the energy isnt enough to even kill the fleas on a mule deer. This is where the 6.5 Grendel comes in. Its a beautiful cartridge. Hits with more energy and a flatter trajectory than a .308 at 1000 meters.

2020-10-09 15:42:53 UTC

Yeap all true 👆 6.5 is a great round...fixed scopes are the way to go, its depending on what ur gonna do with it.

2020-10-09 15:45:08 UTC

I use 6.5 for hog hunting in southern Arkansas

2020-10-09 15:45:31 UTC

what about those hybrid sights?

2020-10-09 15:46:00 UTC

Nice! Im building a 6.5 at the moment. Wilson Combat fluted heavy SS barrel should be arriving any day now.

2020-10-09 15:47:00 UTC

@ThiccSpicyGenderRevealParty I dont use hybrid sights on my weapons so I cant exactly comment with an experienced reply.

2020-10-09 15:48:19 UTC

i assume they're more versatile with the different ranges and such but i don't have one either

2020-10-09 15:50:05 UTC

Oh Wilson combat makes great bullet slingers, I've got one that's part of my AR10 build....mr Stark do u have any micro missile in stock

2020-10-09 15:54:29 UTC

@Winnie37a thanks, I wasn't sure....it appears in good shape

2020-10-09 15:54:37 UTC

@Ironman I'm building the lower on a 6.5 grendel now, and yeah people give it a thumbs down for some reason, usually people who don't know how good a round it actually is, but anyways mine is a 20" 5R rifling, would you put a rifle length gas system on it? And what is the proper weight for the buffer? I've heard mixed opinions from h2, h3, but I was thinking it would be best to go with a rifle buffer weight..

2020-10-09 16:04:54 UTC

Depends entirely on the weight of the round. Heavier rounds will work better for rifle length tubes. Lighter rounds do better with carbine length. Your buffer will be matched to the gas system. A heavy round on a short tube will need a stiffer spring. And vice versa.

2020-10-09 16:06:14 UTC

The barrel is 1-7 twist so heavier rounds, I cant remember offhand what I have but it's the hornady black generally, lately anything I can find, I do have some wolf ammo which is lighter but it's only for plinking

2020-10-09 16:07:14 UTC

I want to say 123gr hornady

2020-10-09 16:07:46 UTC

Gun knowledge is an ever learning process folks, I sure even iron man has gaps in his knowhow...for me I'm becoming knowledgable about the popular Firearms out in the industry.
