Sounds like a plan, try the 43X first, though. NOT the 43, but the 43X. It is slimmer with a shorter barrel, easier to conceal. I carried a 19 for a long time, over 20 years, and recently switched to the 43X. With the Shield Arms S15 mag its a 15+1 firearm like the G19 in a much slimmer firearm. The trigger on the 43X is the best OOTB trigger I've ever used from Glock, give it a try before replacing. If you go with the 43X and a SA mag, you'll need to replace the mag release with a metal release, the mags are steel and will eventually wear on the polymer release.

2020-12-09 13:31:16 UTC

is that an airsoft gun or a .22? or did they just butcher that mag?

2020-12-09 13:43:12 UTC

He owns them, knows about them a little. But he’s not the brightest and he’s pretty arrogant.

2020-12-09 13:48:55 UTC

Yes you do.

2020-12-09 13:50:06 UTC

As a great fat git, I do NOT carry appendix, Rule #2

2020-12-09 13:58:04 UTC

As for a red-dot type sight, I prefer a laser, but that's me.

Red dots are good sights.

2020-12-09 13:58:38 UTC

I'd be happy just to have a laser pointer.

2020-12-09 13:58:43 UTC

Those things are awesome.

2020-12-09 14:10:54 UTC

I have shot micro dots on pistol for competition and enjoy them plus it's smaller for concealed carry.

2020-12-09 14:11:19 UTC

They are good sights have a couple on long guns. On handguns however they can be in the way when seconds count. And for me, I have many thousands of rounds through a handgun before red-dots existed, and have hundreds of hours of muscle memory and sight-picture development to overcome by placing something between my eye and the target. if you spend a year getting used to that red-dot and then remove it, or use someone else's weapon that doesn't have one you'll have that training to overcome before you're as effective. in a crisis, that might be the difference between going home or not.

That was brought home to me a couple of years ago, one of the guys the frequent our range had been using a red-dot for a year, and wanted to try one of our Sig P226 variants. It had standard OOTB sights, no red-dot, and it took him two mags of ammo to get on target. At first he blamed the gun, then one of our instructors put six on the "X" and declared it was NOT the gun. The guy was an excellent shooter over stock sights for years before buying a red-dot, but over the year he had re-trained is sight-picture expectations and his muscle memory to react to the red-dot, and going back required an adjustment. Imagine getting in a gunfight and the battery goes dead ...... bad time to be forced into that adjustment.

Definitely will look at the 43x I was leaning more towards the 19 though because it's a good compromise between a compact for concealed carry and a full size like the 17 or 34.

2020-12-09 14:14:57 UTC

I am a smaller build and have practiced with appendix before and like it the most currently out of the ways to carry.

2020-12-09 14:17:22 UTC

I also like the fact with appendix I can easily carry a spare mag also.

2020-12-09 14:18:44 UTC

That the 19 is, but for me the 43X is even better for concealed carry, being thinner and lighter with a shorter barrel and still having the 15+1 capacity. I would not consider it without the Shield Arms S15 mag, though.

But understand that with appendix carry, you need a LOT of practice to avoid pointing that firearm at your thigh or groin when drawing and reholstering. I see a LOT of guys, even skinny guys, at the range appendix carry and cringe watching them sweep their own bodies with the muzzle as the draw and re-holster.

A friend of mine carried small of his back, and shot himself in the ass drawing his firearm. Shoot happens to the best of us.

2020-12-09 14:20:10 UTC

In my view, you should only be reholstering when the danger has passed, so there's no problem taking your time to make sure you reholster safely.

2020-12-09 14:20:55 UTC

Spare mag is an off-hand function, so a right hand shooter should carry a spare mag on his left side anyway. I carry two mags, a 15 and a 20 round. With my blown right rotator cuff, I'm forced to carry cross-draw with a fairly steep cant to my right hand, and the mag are left of the holster.

2020-12-09 14:21:36 UTC

Yes I plan on taking a handgun course through warrior poet society after I get my permit and will continue to practice drawing from appendix safely with one of my range instructors or dad watching when I go to the range each week.

2020-12-09 14:23:07 UTC

Reholstering should always be done safely, so should driving down a highway. In both cases mistakes happen, distractions are everywhere, shoot happens, that is the reason for rule #2, shoot happens, so the thing should NEVER be pointed at anything you do not wish to destroy. ... that would include your own junk and lower legs.

2020-12-09 14:24:35 UTC

I would still be using my left hand to draw the spare mag with my appendix holster.

2020-12-09 14:26:29 UTC

With that holster setup, yes you would, but if you carry that holster at your right, the mag can't be reached easily. That holster setup forces you to appendix carry. If that what you wish to do, fine. But I look for ways to avoid pointing my firearm at me, even accidentally.

2020-12-09 14:29:56 UTC

When holstering properly, you should not be aiming the gun at yourself at any point even with appendix. Also, my holster is over my junk, a problem that is difficult when using a urinal, so my gun wouldn't be pointing at that. As for leg, it also would only ever point at that after holstered, something I imagine every carry position will do at some point but at that point the trigger should be protected and I treat as mostly safe. I use the same logic at that point the same as when I keep my loaded gun in a safe.

2020-12-09 14:32:06 UTC

Technically with my holster you can remove the bungee cable connecting the two parts together and carry them separately on your sides of you want thou I have no plans to do that.
