I AM black and racist as hell, i don't go into black neighborhoods, I keep my eyes on black punks with their drawers showing, I lock my car in the city, I pay close attention to what is going on around me. I profile the punks all the damned time. I am MUCH more comfortable around a crowd of white folks. So is my wife and kids. There is a reason for that.
Where are you going that you need a bike?? WHY are you going?? If it really hits the fan you want to be invisible, if you're not already out of "Dodge" it'll be too late to leave. You need 6 months of food per person, and a quiet way to protect it and you if you're discovered and you really need to be where you won't be discovered BEFORE it hits the fan. You need to be there already, yesterday, and for years.
As for EMP, there already exists EMP devices as powerful as nuclear weapons that will cook everything not in a faraday cage that are not nuclear. There is a work of fiction called "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen, give it a read. But bear in mind that only works in a small community that was fairly close knit BEFORE it hit the fan. If you're within 30 miles of a major city ... MOVE.

Anyway, an EMP large enough to effect a large area needs to be high, 10 of them over just ten major cities will be sufficient to shut down this country. That is recoverable but will be devastating for millions.
I think you missed my point. There are EMPs caused by a nuclear blast. There are EMPs that are not caused by a nuclear blast but are powered by portable nuclear reactors. Those exist and fit on airplanes. If a stone age bunch can fly four planes into buildings, imagine if they get a modicum of technical ability.

Being a black man in Southeast Texas for the last seven decades, an avid gun owner/sport shooter, a half-century long conservative, I find myself torn at what I'd like to see happen tomorrow; ONE a true landslide for Trump where NO state is blue and Trump get ALL the electoral votes and a 90% popular vote victory OR he gets a victory by just one electoral vote and loses the popular vote. In the first case it would show the radical leftists that the nation just does not support their brand of lunacy. In the second case the left would lose their minds and attempt to burn it all down. When they left their little microcosm of downtown Democrat controlled cities and came out here in the woods where my friends live, they'd learn the true meaning of civil war.

@sixfivebyfiftyfive Not enough power for hunting, there are PCP varieties that have more punch.
A small bicycle pump is sufficient and portable. Takes a bit to reach optimum pressure but doable in SHTF a event.
I own two PCP rifles, one in .22 cal and one in .357. "Cans" can reduce audible report on the .357 to negligible decibels, and still carry enough energy to drop a feral pig. Could probably drop a deer but I've never tried. As for portable, if you don't already own a bug-out domicile it might be too late. Once it hits the fan, I'm not going anywhere, and anyone coming here has made a serious tactical error.
The tank and scope is removable and the can CAN be removed, but reassembly is slow so its not a quick response weapon if broken down. You can buy a second tank to extend your hunting time. Mines a .357 cal but you can get it in .45 and .30. The .357 will accurately send a 145 gr pellet at just of 1,000fps, and placed properly that'll drop a hog nicely. It might adjust the attitude of nosey people as well. Requires no background check or special licensing.
Think crossbow instead of standard compound, most will collapse to a fairly small size and take just a few seconds to make ready, quieter than the PCP rifles by far. I have two Barnetts that are several years old and proven game getters, and I much prefer them to the standard bows I own. When I have nothing better to do I manufacture bolts for them (cheaper than buying). For a couple hundred and a stamp fee you can use a suppressor on a .22lr and its pretty quiet, the CAN can be swapped between a handgun and rifle, on the handgun for that rapid response scene and to the rifle for a quiet hunt.
If you go with bows of any kind, and firearms as well, make sure you acquire replacement parts to build at least two replacements. You don't know how long you will need to use them. Gee this discussion might belong in the prepping channel.

You are quite welcome. Several years ago as the early PCP started to make headway in the market I started looking at their ability to take game. I was part of an annual charity hog hunt in west Texas from 2004 thru last year and in 2010 brought a borrowed .50cal PCP to the hunt and took three boars with that rifle, two of them over 350lbs. Because I was concerned over the lethality of the 350gr hollow point pellets, I did not take any of them over about 20 yards. None of them moved more than 5 yards from point of impact. I was sold on the ability of the weapon to take game. Since then, I've purchased my own and have taken dozens of pigs. Now because I'm a bad shot I still keep them close and avoid any shot longer than 25-30 yards.
For a SHTF survival tool, its nearly perfect, it's a LOT louder than you would think for an air-rifle, so its not stealthy. But ammo can be cast from any bulk metal you have the ability to melt, lead, brass, copper and air is free as long as you have a pump.

Hang fire can be a problem, and is an astounding reason to buy quality ammo. Had some off brand 9mm (Russian) that had 2 hang-fires out of 25 rounds. When it happens you have to just stand there for a long time pointing the weapon down-range waiting for the BANG, or lay it on the bench with a sandbag on it. When it does go off, you can wet yerself.

Capitalism without restraint is self-limiting, outside interference causes the issues. Outside interference is things like a minimum wage, which either raises prices or reduces employment. There is no other outcome for an increase in minimum wage. Workers rights are also self-limiting when workers care about themselves. If everyone refuses to work for "those" places, then "those" places will have to modify their business model or go out of business.

@chaz Poverty levels are a manufactured level that is based on an arbitrary income level. The lower classes did NOT become more "WEALTHY", they simply had more INCOME. There is a vast difference. Their income went up, so did their outgo eventually as the cost of products followed the increase in costs of manufacture. Minimum wage either increases prices or reduces employment, there is NO other result.

A company should give an employee a raise when he deserves it. If that company does not take care of good employees they should go elsewhere for employment. I don't give my people raises when I CAN, I give it when it's deserved. Some may never get a raise because they have not done the job that deserves a raise. Others may get many raises as they prove to be valuable employees.
You are comparing apples and aardvarks. the average company size in the 60's was about 4% the size of the average company now. With the increase in company size that ratio should be 400 to 1. Minimum wage reduces employment at the most critical levels, entry level.

I own a business that provides sufficient profits for me to offer an internship to about 24 people every summer at minimum wage. People with NO experience at all get an opportunity to work in a fairly large company and learn the ropes. At the end of the summer I can offer full-time jobs to sometimes 5 and sometime 15 of those kids, depending on the economy and how busy we are. Those people get an opportunity to get their foot in the door of a business that pays non-college graduates in less than 3 years $20/hr., I have some people without degrees making as much as $90 an hour with experience. If you double that minimum wage I'll have to cut the internship opportunities in half, eliminating that opportunity for 12 kids at entry level. Those 12 will have NO chance to enter this business, they will be forever stuck in minimum wage jobs with NO chance to do any better. And that's just my internship program on the engineering side. I employ as many as 50 people every year at an entry level on the construction side who never had any other job. Maybe half of them work out in the construction field, the rest just aren't cut out for working construction. Doubling the minimum wage will eliminate half of those jobs.
Won't happen, that creates an opportunity for competition to hire away the best employees in that field for a buck-fifty. Or choose a different field. Right now we're talking about flipping burgers and other ENTRY LEVEL jobs. These jobs are not intended as careers, these jobs provide young people with something they can get NO other way, experience... and a few bucks for Friday night at the movies. The reason so many "adults" are flipping burgers as a career is that's the only job the can get and not have to pass a drug test. As soon as McDonalds starts drug testing the demand for $15/hr will evaporate.
I am required by law to pay minimum wage to those interns. That was not so in 1982 and I paid them nothing for three months. They knew they had a signing bonus of $2,000 if they made the cut and were hired at the end of the program, and they'd make more than minimum wage if hired. I had to turn away more kids than made the program. Now I have to pay minimum wage and frequently I have positions open that no one wants. No one wants to work for a living anymore, everyone got a trophy, why doesn't everyone get a check.

I prefer the Sig, but I broke my right hand several years ago and I don't like the roll on the back of many firearms like the CZ. The Sig has a slighter roll to it. I'm a Glock guy mostly because the grip has a fairly straight back up high and I can easily cut the polymer frame down.

Do not care one bit how they look, it ain't a beauty pageant and with the proper grip you can only see a few inches of barrel. I care that when I pull the bang switch it goes bang. I have somewhere around 100,000 rounds through a Glock of some kind with very d4mned few failures of the firearm.
In 1985 the CZ75 wasn't popular in the US yet, it was around, but finding one on a shelf was not an everyday event in the Houston area. When I moved away from .45 to 9mm for competition the options were limited and my search of gun shops in the area popped my first sight of the G17 above. It had been the shop owner's firearm but he didn't like it for some reason and I got a deal. I pushed 60 or 70 thousand rounds through it competitively before picking up a G17L. A few years later, I dislocated several vertebrae in my neck and shooting for competition ended. By then I loved the firearm and the feel of the grip and it was too late to change.
I've fired the CZ75, but don't like the roll of the grip, prefer a straighter back

I know what you mean about the palm swell, it's why I don't like a lot of firearms. In the mid 80's 9mm variants of the 1911 just weren't available, where I was anyway. If you wanted a 9mm your selections were limited. For competition the 9mm had less recoil than the 45acp and getting back on target was faster cleaner smoother for me. That switch brought me from bottom half to top third of the field, I get to shoot on day two anyway, if just the morning round.
Take the 19 to any gunsmith and have them grind down the "lump". The glock polymer frames have enough meat to them that they can be adjusted a fair degree. I ground down that swell on my 17L and my EDC 19. My 43X is in the shop now, hope to get it back this week.

In an age where travel was difficult certain segments of the population were indeed abused by certain business practices. Many people were simply incapable of seeking other employment for a multitude of reasons, including slavery. Using that as a basis for condemning capitalism is like using the Crusades to denigrate all of Christendom today.
Today, even in the most rural of areas, finding other employment (for those with the skills/talent) is as easy as simply looking and driving in a different direction. Adding 5 miles to a commute today is 5 minutes, in 1916 it was an hour. So let's not compare apples and aardvarks shall we not?? Slavery and indentured servitude are no longer issues, neither is the perceived isolation of the past.
Additionally, there is a much greater degree of freedom to alter career paths today than ever in the history of the world. Four semesters at a local college can open up entire new fields of employment for those with the mettle to step away from the comfortable. There exists today a much greater market for entrepreneurship in hundreds of new fields. In the last two decades I've seen the number of businesses in competition with me and even bigger engineering firms explode, as those wishing to be their own boss in this industry step away from the traditional position of engineers and hang their own "stamp" out for hire. That explosion has made all of us in the industry better for it. Competition improves the product like NOTHING else, and those who fail to address it are eliminated. Look at the number of large engineering firms in the last two decades that no longer exist either through extinction of absorption. I find my firm now in competition with engineers I trained, who, after a decade of learning the ropes, left my firm to start their own. That is a good thing, no a great thing, it forces me to be more agile and more efficient or lose business, and such is better for all of us.
Those factory workers have EVERY opportunity to do something else, BE something else, to expand their horizons. They are NOT locked into their current job, they are merely comfortable in it, too comfortable to seek out better. And sometimes better is in another city or even another state.
AS for factory workers making a few dollars a WEEK currently .. bullshirt. That is unsupportable by even the new math. The average US wage in 1913 was $0.24 and hour, that's AVERAGE. Minimum wage today adjusted for inflation would be $0.29 an hour in 1913. Today's minimum wage is 20% higher than the AVERAGE wage of 1913.
And @Zilla is correct, instead of dollars look at what is being purchased today. A friend of mine is an immigrant, that means he is here LEGALLY. I asked him once why he wanted to come to America, he replied, "I wanted to live where even the poor people were fat." My dad was a brick layer who raised four kids to adulthood, living the "American Dream"; our house was 1070 sq.ft., two bedroom one bath, no garage, no A/C (in Southeast Texas), we had ONE phone on a party-line, and free TV was two channels unless the cloud cover was just right. We had ONE car. His wage would be about $19/hour now. He saved enough money to send four kids to college from 1962 to 1970.

When I was in competition it was 800-1,000 rounds a week, its more like a month now. Couldn't afford 1,000/wk now. Still, I haven't bought a single box of ammo in decades, they're cheaper by the case
Oh, that's not true, I've bought single boxes of defense rounds for the EDC firearms and the "placed" home defense weapons.

The actual competition was 200-300 rounds depending on how I did and when I got bumped, some days 25 did it. But I was at the range burning through ammo for practice all the time.
Not school, didn't do team shooting, 1980 thru 1993 individual shooter in USPSA before it was USPSA.
We had a gun club when I was in school back in the 1960's but it was about maintenance and cleaning, beginning smithing.

if they bring up the word "need" at any time list all the crap they don't "need", cell phones, facebook, man-buns, piercings, tattoos, fedoras, beards, cars that can go over 40mph, etc. If they bring up "assault" weapons, point out "assault" is a verb and if I hit you with a rock, its an assault weapon. Making laws about what other people NEED is a slippery slope.
If they mention "rifles" as in assault rifles, ask them why they want to ban the firearm used LEAST in homicides in this country. EVERY other type of firearm is used more often than black rifles. ("Its because its black isn't it you racist twat-waddle")
If they bring up the homicide count, point out that 60% of all gun homicide and 70% of all gun crime is gang/drug related. Eliminate gangs and drugs and the US is comparable to most of the world. Over 50% of gun homicides are black on black crime, 6% of the population commits over 50% of the gun homicides.
If they bring up Australia, point out that gun crime rates in the US dropped at the same rate it dropped in Australia without the gun ban. Gun crime rates in the US are currently HALF of what they were in the early 1990's, and have been dropping since the mid 80's. Point out that prisons are gun free and yet the homicide rate there is higher than most of the rest of the world, homicide is an action of PEOPLE not guns.

Nah it was a wife really pi$$ed at her husband and snapped, hit in the back of the head then climbed on an just wailed on him. I was on a citizen ride along with Harris County Sheriff's dept. 35 years ago.
Yeah, it was fairly brutal, a deputy blew lunch on the front of a cruiser. I grew up on a farm, butchered more than my share of hogs, chickens, cows. Hunted since I could walk and dressed every kind of game you can mention from squirrels to elk. But seeing a guy that was basically soup on the floor was a bit disconcerting, cast-off on the walls and ceiling, bottom of the kitchen table, the window, frig, everywhere. She was pi$$ed. A 12ga shotgun with 00Buck could not have created that much damage without reloading a couple of times.
