Another reason for purgatory does not exist "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,"
Hebrews 9:27
Help me understand this one
After you die God judge you so there is no purgatory to atone for your sins.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
So it’s not about atonement as much as purification. God saves you, but you must be purified before entering heaven. That happens in purgatory
You don’t have to be perfect to be saved
What?! You get purified on earth by being baptized by water and spirit
But between your baptism and your death you are umpire because of sin
God's grace is forgiveness why then did he send his son to earth you're basically saying Jesus didn't forgive all your sins
And his death on the cross was meaningless
I’m just gonna agree to disagree here. I’m not doing a good job of defending my view and I don’t know how to explain it better right now and frankly I need to go to bed
Sleep on it then and maybe you can explain better because I battled a catholic discord and left some questioning
Yes
Of courses they can
All popes have been corrupted
She just happened to fit the criteria, young, from family of King David etc
If purgatory exist then do whatever the hell you want in this life and fix it in purgatory and then go to heaven. So what you do in this earth really doesn't matter.
You have one life so what you do in this earth matters. When you die God is going to judge you. God is showing his to people right now. Ask for forgiveness and be saved
It does thats why purgatory doesn't even exist
Your judge by God after you died
And don’t forget to leave out that she was humble, and willing and related to Elizabeth (mother of John the Baptist)
so many differences, but can we agree that we should obey the commandments and beatitutudes given to us and have faith ? or no?
If my memory is any good the notion of purgatory is originally from Dante's Inferno. It's been a while for me since I studied it though.
dante was after
"According to the French historian Jacques Le Goff, the conception of purgatory as a physical place dates to the 12th century, the heyday of medieval otherworld-journey narratives and of pilgrims’ tales about St. Patrick’s Purgatory, "
Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) created a poetic synthesis of theology,
my school's name was exactly that, comicly
.
but it may be older.. read here http://www.mtc.org/purgtory.html
That sounds sorta messed up
@Nicotron_Magic Seems like you're taking that out of context
Ight
hello
I see nobody has joined besides u
Lol
@Lambton To your point: selfishness and pride, yes. but i'd rather try to pay off the debt and die trying rather than relying, and worst, hurting someone for my own good
First of all we have to acknowledge that Jesus is God. Second we have to acknowledge that God can and will forgive but He must also be just. This means that someone had to take the punishment in order that we could be forgiven
Humans can’t pay off their debt, because no human is perfect, only Jesus is
The thing is that you hurt Him more by not accepting than you do by accepting. Also, by not accepting you work against paying your debt rather than amending it
Thank goodness Jesus came to provide a way for salvation
