You can typically rebuild manual transmissions in your garage fairly easily if you have a press and some mechanical skills
Even the simplest of automatics can be a nightmare
Leaper Dreams; flying
@cruzzzer Welcome to the Standard Transmission Preservation Society!
@PaddlerCoach44 Wanna see mine that I just had rebuilt?
@ThatShadyVandal Trans or Jag? Sure!
Trans
Lay it on us
My M21 muncie 4 speed
Sweeet!
Years ago, 1980's when I was racing built up a couple of rock crushers. Easy to do with proper tools.
@ThatShadyVandal , what is the install?
What do you mean? What's it going in?
Yup
A 1969 corvette
I think I just wet myself....very nice!
Heh
@ThatShadyVandal congrats man!
You know, in another month, I'll have had this project for a year
Great project; good to take time, lots of pics, making sure everything is correct.
Oh, this thing is so far from original
Yeah?
Engine is a cobbled together 350 with a 1970 block, mid 60s heads, winters foundary manifold, headers, holley double pumper
The transmission is out of a 1970 car
Fenders have been flared
But that's okay, I'm going to build a hotrod out of it
saw the fenders; everything is perfect! Making it yours.
Exactly
My favorite 'back in the day'; I was racing '65 Chevelle's and had a spare body. Wound up placing my dirt track 327 4-bolt main in there with one of the rock crushers. Gosh I miss that car!
3 speed was all we needed
Sometimes I'll describe my M21 to folks as the "rock crusher's quiet brother"
👍
The ratios are identical
Alloy is slightly weaker though
things change; you'll still get lots of life out of it
Oh yeah, I'm not worried about it at all
This transmission is so overbuilt now
That billet midplate you see in there is a pretty sweet part for 90 bucks, too
indeed
