You can typically rebuild manual transmissions in your garage fairly easily if you have a press and some mechanical skills

Even the simplest of automatics can be a nightmare

@cruzzzer Welcome to the Standard Transmission Preservation Society!

2020-10-11 00:26:55 UTC

@PaddlerCoach44 Wanna see mine that I just had rebuilt?

2020-10-11 00:43:42 UTC

2020-10-11 00:44:38 UTC

Sweeet!

2020-10-11 00:45:21 UTC

Years ago, 1980's when I was racing built up a couple of rock crushers. Easy to do with proper tools.

2020-10-11 00:46:11 UTC

@ThatShadyVandal , what is the install?

2020-10-11 00:47:44 UTC

What do you mean? What's it going in?

2020-10-11 00:47:58 UTC

Yup

2020-10-11 00:48:11 UTC

A 1969 corvette

I think I just wet myself....very nice!

2020-10-11 00:48:56 UTC

Heh

2020-10-11 00:49:06 UTC

@ThatShadyVandal congrats man!

2020-10-11 00:49:21 UTC

You know, in another month, I'll have had this project for a year

2020-10-11 00:49:46 UTC

Great project; good to take time, lots of pics, making sure everything is correct.

2020-10-11 00:50:00 UTC

How's the engine? Numbers?

2020-10-11 00:50:09 UTC

Oh, this thing is so far from original

2020-10-11 00:50:36 UTC

Yeah?

2020-10-11 00:50:37 UTC

Engine is a cobbled together 350 with a 1970 block, mid 60s heads, winters foundary manifold, headers, holley double pumper

2020-10-11 00:50:46 UTC

The transmission is out of a 1970 car

2020-10-11 00:50:53 UTC

Fenders have been flared

2020-10-11 00:51:07 UTC

But that's okay, I'm going to build a hotrod out of it

2020-10-11 00:51:29 UTC

saw the fenders; everything is perfect! Making it yours.

2020-10-11 00:51:43 UTC

Exactly

2020-10-11 00:54:09 UTC

My favorite 'back in the day'; I was racing '65 Chevelle's and had a spare body. Wound up placing my dirt track 327 4-bolt main in there with one of the rock crushers. Gosh I miss that car!

2020-10-11 00:54:35 UTC

3 speed was all we needed

2020-10-11 00:55:01 UTC

Sometimes I'll describe my M21 to folks as the "rock crusher's quiet brother"

2020-10-11 00:55:24 UTC

👍

2020-10-11 00:56:03 UTC

The ratios are identical

2020-10-11 00:56:13 UTC

Alloy is slightly weaker though

2020-10-11 00:56:58 UTC

things change; you'll still get lots of life out of it

2020-10-11 00:58:56 UTC

Oh yeah, I'm not worried about it at all

2020-10-11 00:59:04 UTC

This transmission is so overbuilt now

2020-10-11 00:59:55 UTC

That billet midplate you see in there is a pretty sweet part for 90 bucks, too

2020-10-11 01:01:14 UTC

indeed
