I was on the fence, then I watched Donut Operator

2020-11-30 03:13:53 UTC

I back the good cops...which are most

2020-11-30 03:14:10 UTC

bad cops wouldn't care about race, unless they are a white supremacists. But they make up like none

2020-11-30 03:15:07 UTC

I back the good cops but defunding wouldn't filter out the bad, heck they may even get rid of the good since many good cops won't be able to handle the cuts

2020-11-30 03:15:25 UTC

Cops need more funding

2020-11-30 03:15:32 UTC

True

2020-11-30 03:16:26 UTC

They have extremely basic training, and must pay for their own training if they wish to be a better cop

2020-11-30 03:16:44 UTC

if they want a reform than they need more funding, body cameras, also funding, not looking like military? it's a maybe

2020-11-30 03:17:15 UTC

unsure if they way cops interact with people affect if people comply or not

2020-11-30 03:17:37 UTC

They don't need to change their uniform, people just need to change theor mindset

2020-11-30 03:18:12 UTC

yea blm basically brainwashed to think police is hunting blacks when they aren't

2020-11-30 03:18:39 UTC

i want police reform across the board, period. officers swear to the constitution, not the draconian laws. that being said, the thing is, bad police can deemed it as "necessary" to the constitution and used it to justify their bad actions

2020-11-30 03:19:21 UTC

Yea I want a police reform, cops do feel like they have too much power and it's easy to have the same feeling

2020-11-30 03:20:05 UTC

I also don't know what they should change with cops, in terms of racial justice there's basically nothing since racist interactions make up not even half a % tbh

2020-11-30 03:20:21 UTC

i'd argue the cuts actually allow for more bad cops. all the good ones are pushed out/fired/quit. department desperate for cops and proceeded to hire literally anyone, rushed through training. hence, more bad cops

2020-11-30 03:20:44 UTC

I thought the same thing

2020-11-30 03:21:19 UTC

filtering out the bad cops is really difficult since they would have to find proof of them being unprofessional and complaints wouldn't be enough

2020-11-30 03:21:28 UTC

Body cams

2020-11-30 03:21:45 UTC

i heard an interesting point: we should have a civilian training class. because "the talk" is basically given to everyone (hell, even my immigrant parents told me that the first time we came to canada). but they somehow turned it into racism. so we need to educate the mass

2020-11-30 03:21:47 UTC

oh yeah body cams

2020-11-30 03:21:49 UTC

But those are expensive and how long should the video footage be stored?

2020-11-30 03:22:27 UTC

My parents most likely said the same thing but can you elaborate since I can prob relate

2020-11-30 03:22:58 UTC

sometimes people interaction turns violent. i'd say mental health support for cops is a definite thing, have those checkpoints in place so cops who may be stressed out are deployed elsewhere or receive supports in time.

2020-11-30 03:23:02 UTC

defund the police but demand body cams

2020-11-30 03:23:47 UTC

wdym? the talk my dad gave me? "put your hands on the wheel, stay still until the police comes over. be polite and answer question"

2020-11-30 03:23:52 UTC

And mental health training for cops so they can recognize when someone is going through a crisis such as schizophrenia.

2020-11-30 03:23:53 UTC

I agree that we should invest in social services, it's very hard to determine if it would be effective or if people will even use them.

2020-11-30 03:24:35 UTC

oh ok, my dad just told me to not to look back

2020-11-30 03:24:44 UTC

most pd have body cams now (funnily enough, also the reason why so many cops wrongfully accused of racism/police brutality got saved by the body cams)

2020-11-30 03:24:58 UTC

@isoboto my parents gave me that talk to and I'm white lol. My parents have never committed crimes so we don't have anything to be worried about

2020-11-30 03:25:09 UTC

like george floyd got saved by body cams

2020-11-30 03:25:42 UTC

@2Lazy2BeOriginal yes, that footage should have been made public instantly though

2020-11-30 03:25:44 UTC

definitely. idk if having a mental worker on the ride is necessarily helpful, but wouldn't hurt to give it a try. but the mental worker needs to give some basic training tho

2020-11-30 03:26:10 UTC

still wrong and doesn't make the cop better, but it wasn't racist and floyd was being annoying to be with

2020-11-30 03:26:42 UTC

not necessarily. the knee-on-neck was still an overkill, but i absolutely agree it makes the whole case for floyd being "innocent" into more doubt

2020-11-30 03:26:43 UTC

Well they don't need a mental health worker along for the ride, but they need training in understanding mental health in people they may come across

2020-11-30 03:27:42 UTC

I'm not convinced the officer had a lot of weight pressed into Floyds neck.

2020-11-30 03:28:02 UTC

lol every parent give the talk, i think. should still have a mandatory class for the public tho, i think, maybe given by a police. built rapport with the people, too

2020-11-30 03:28:41 UTC

floyd was a victim and the cops were awful but victim isn't always good person, he may have been a good person at heart but he was high and was annoying

2020-11-30 03:28:45 UTC

only chauvin. the other 3 were trying their best. remember, chauvin has seniority, and i think 1-2 of them are rookies

2020-11-30 03:29:12 UTC

2 were rookies
