you kind of want a little bit of censoring

2020-10-30 17:24:27 UTC

just to fish out all the extreme stuff

2020-10-30 17:26:13 UTC

Well there's a difference between censoring harmful information, and censoring opinionated information. If something is against the law it is not protected under freedom of speech, but if someone says something extreme that is only their opinion it is protected under the law

2020-10-30 17:27:04 UTC

The problem nowadays is that censoring is taking place on opinionated material, not just illegal material

2020-10-30 17:27:30 UTC

perhaps?

2020-10-30 17:28:19 UTC

Well take covid for example. If you say something on facebook or twitter that isnt in line with the WHO then you get it removed

2020-10-30 17:28:32 UTC

even if it is just your opinion

2020-10-30 17:29:14 UTC

yeah but it's kind of like... what happens if 30 million people read that and then believe a opinion that is wrong

2020-10-30 17:29:19 UTC

it becomes harmful

2020-10-30 17:30:13 UTC

like people can get hurt surely?

2020-10-30 17:31:16 UTC

i do wish for freedom of speech but it's really hard to balance the 2 things i feel

2020-10-30 17:31:28 UTC

That's where people have to use discretion, censoring shouldn't be used to prevent the possibility of subjective harm. It should be used to prevent impending harm

2020-10-30 17:31:37 UTC

That where physical speech is protected

2020-10-30 17:32:19 UTC

i totally agree with what you say

2020-10-30 17:32:33 UTC

but just can't imagine a dude who wouldn't take it out of context

2020-10-30 17:32:37 UTC

in the entire world

2020-10-30 17:34:05 UTC

I mean it happens all the time, on or off the internet. People take things out of context all the time, or take certain opinions as fact compared to others. The problem is that governments shouldn't decide that for the people it governs. The issue now is that the corporations are the ones that govern these platforms

2020-10-30 17:34:09 UTC

what is being discussed here?

2020-10-30 17:34:27 UTC

Well it started with covid

2020-10-30 17:34:37 UTC

lol

2020-10-30 17:34:42 UTC

yeah lol

2020-10-30 17:34:48 UTC

yeah, quite a bit to unpack that I don't want to lol

2020-10-30 17:34:56 UTC

it's still kind of covid but

2020-10-30 17:35:10 UTC

now censorship in regards to covid i guess

2020-10-30 17:35:19 UTC

Ah

2020-10-30 17:36:15 UTC

I guess I'll sum it up with this since its a long conversation. Organizations like the WHO are there to provide guidance, not governance

2020-10-30 17:36:43 UTC

It's not the place of government to force people to do things unless they are proven to be against the law

2020-10-30 17:36:52 UTC

I agree

2020-10-30 17:37:30 UTC

Mask wearing is something where the guidance is to wear it, but it is not the place of the government, federal or corporate, to mandate that people comply with the guidance

2020-10-30 17:38:07 UTC

Yep. Not only that, but they don't do much, considering most people with covid usually wear masks

2020-10-30 17:38:59 UTC

and now we're onto whether it is correct for facebook and twitter censor info if it doesn't comply with the WHO

2020-10-30 17:39:19 UTC

well.... that's a complicated discussion

2020-10-30 17:39:25 UTC

yeah it's 2 sides

2020-10-30 17:39:47 UTC

It should be taken seriously, but at the extent that some of these push it, it's too much

2020-10-30 17:39:49 UTC

but everything in reality has a exact and best solution

2020-10-30 17:39:55 UTC

most commonly met in the middle ground

2020-10-30 17:40:02 UTC

> Mask wearing is something where the guidance is to wear it, but it is not the place of the government, federal or corporate, to mandate that people comply with the guidance
@The Guy Behind You And it is an actual felony to wear a mask, while carrying a firearm. Conceal carry is what I’m referring to..

2020-10-30 17:40:25 UTC

Do you mean not to wear a mask?

2020-10-30 17:40:56 UTC

well i was arguing that karens who cry because they can't get into walmart without a mask is too much

2020-10-30 17:41:06 UTC

well yes

2020-10-30 17:41:15 UTC

and doesn't impede any freedoms you just need to grow up imo
