California's entire history is the rich and elite, politicians, etc. absolutely screwing over everyone else...goes all the way back to the gold rush
unlike Texas, who voluntarily wanted to be a part of the Union because it did not want the full force of the Mexican army deleting them from existence after Texas gained its revolution
