For a change some good news in Canada: Regina judge finds post-Ghomeshi sex assault provisions unconstitutional: In a decision published on Aug. 1, Judge Bruce Henning determined that three new sections of the Criminal Code infringed on the fair-trial rights of a person accused of assaulting a teen in the Regina area, by limiting proper cross-examination of his accuser.
The new sections were part of the Liberal government’s Bill C-51, widely viewed as a response to Ghomeshi’s 2016 acquittal on charges of sexual assault and overcoming resistance by choking. Henning’s ruling follows two Ontario decisions that upheld the law as constitutional. @Happy Humble Hermit
