Yeah I wasted so much money trying to save those poor fish
I had goldfish for three or four years
They are smart
But also, why win something that I now have to take care of? Like, the reward is a burden? No thanks.
for like 3 seconds?
at a time
Like I cried when I had to give them away. They 100% recognized me as their owner
Like they'd come to my side of the tank and beg for food
They just got so big that it was cruel to keep them
I can feel this on a personal level
It's the fact that the fish are in a plastic bag fish don't breathe water they filter the oxygen in the water and keeping them in an airtight bag is just screaming kill me
I'm sure you'd cry too if your Giant Food God left you
I was afraid I'd stunt their growth which is another reason why carnivals shouldn't have that game; fish grow to the size of their tanks but their organs don't
I once tried to keep a water turtle. It didn't take....and it was a permanent stain on my soul....feeling how soft his shell was when he decided to give up....
ah I didn't know that
Like it's graphic but yeah
@JohnsMyth oh my gosh I feel that
so how do you avoid that? just don't feed them as much?
I gave him medicine, put him in natural light, had a large stone outside the water he could rest on. He still knew that life was over. He crawled up, ignored the food and medicine, and gave up.
Like it feels so bad
Granted my goldfish were fine and I hope they found a good home but I sobbed because I knew I had gotten them knowing the books said not to
> so how do you avoid that? just don't feed them as much?
@Dante No, just don't get them if you don't have a 40+ gallon tank
ah ok
It's always good to know about the animal you're trying to raise
very true
Like fr they get huge, especially comets
I was foolish and wanted a goldfish so badly that I ignored the books and believed the pet shop owner
I wish parents would do that too
HOWEVER. I've been watching this guy on youtube who creates natural environments for fish. Looks like a ton of work, but they really thrive, and it's super therapeutic just watching how he sets the whole thing up.
They were small enough at the time
I had a pet tortoise once and it was basically a rescue because we found it on the side of the road about 3 weeks later my stepdad and I drove to the river and he said he was going to release it by throwing it in and I said are you stupid they can't swim
Foo the Flowerhorn, that's who it is.
Dang I miss my goldfish now
But seriously, they're so much smarter than people give them credit. The three seconds thing is a lie; they knew when lunch and breakfast and dinner was
I didn't take as good care of them as I should have
Duuuude I came across a HUGE snapper turtle. Like 18" shell in diameter. Tried to keep it until we found out they were actually supposed to be killed on sight in our county.
Oh dannng

@JohnsMyth why is that?
Snapping turtles suck
Yes snapping turtles are nothing to be messed with you can lose a finger so quickly
They destroy everything
I'd also add that the goldfish I had could recognize people
just cos they have good comebacks doesn't mean they don't have feelings
