?

2020-12-30 15:57:16 UTC

@Knotty I can pretty much never talk in vc b/c I'm supposed to be doing hw rn

2020-12-30 15:57:21 UTC

okay so if I were to live on just teh basics I could get away with spending under $7,500 a year on food, fuel, and housing.

2020-12-30 15:57:47 UTC

oh really? I don't live in america and have a limited understanding of

2020-12-30 15:57:53 UTC

economics

2020-12-30 15:58:21 UTC

<:DerpyMeow:675825290425008171>

2020-12-30 15:58:28 UTC

so if we for some reason cut chinas supply out of the blue, how much would things cost?

2020-12-30 15:58:46 UTC

more

2020-12-30 15:58:48 UTC

a lot more

2020-12-30 15:58:53 UTC

well duh

2020-12-30 15:58:59 UTC

but they also depend on us

2020-12-30 15:59:00 UTC

like triple I guess

2020-12-30 15:59:02 UTC

so it would hurt both

2020-12-30 15:59:03 UTC

Not sure there's a formula for that, but the plus side is that there would also be more jobs available to Americans

2020-12-30 15:59:27 UTC

So it would (ideally) stabilize into probably being more expensive, but still affordable

2020-12-30 15:59:31 UTC

but competitive advantages can outweigh the benefits of local jobs *in some cases*

2020-12-30 16:00:07 UTC

okay well I read what you article said, and there are several parts to dissect. The biggest of which is the USA has a Navy that is unmatched by any except Sweden and the only reason Sweden would get away with it is because they have an electric stealth submarine that no other nation has at this current time. China doesn't have this type of submarine and currently does not have the Naval capacity even with Russia to take on the Navy. It would take China, Russia, India, all of the EU, and most of the Middle East to Truly take on and defeat the USA due to the simple fact that US citizens own more guns than the rest of the world combine.

2020-12-30 16:00:22 UTC

lmao

2020-12-30 16:01:06 UTC

Actually, China's capabilities in the SCS, even as of a year ago, are enough to obliterate the US navy

2020-12-30 16:01:09 UTC

There is a reason Japan never even attempted to invade the USA mainland. There is a reason why China is banking on a USA civil war, and is actively trying to destabilize the USA through political and economic means.

2020-12-30 16:01:18 UTC

Plus, if we shipped troops, it would take weeks or months

2020-12-30 16:02:07 UTC

You still fail to realize that they would still have to deal with the Mainland USA to win a war and not just have a cease fire.

2020-12-30 16:02:57 UTC

Yes China invested heavy into Missile tech, and surface to sea defense in preparation to take on the USA Navy.

2020-12-30 16:02:58 UTC

indeed. actually, if you press, many economists would say cutting china out (or minimizing china's economic trade role) is bad. china produces cheaper stuffs, so even though american producers are hurting, americans consumers benefit from it.

the question is: are the consumer benefits still worth it at this point? when do we have to put our foot down and protect our producers?

2020-12-30 16:03:04 UTC

I'm looking for the pdf of the passage. If I find it I'll dm you

2020-12-30 16:04:02 UTC

You want to know what China did not invest in? A mainland invasion because instead they will just take away the comforts that we enjoy being made in China and from other Asian nations.

2020-12-30 16:05:55 UTC

Like that i-phone or samsung those won't be available anymore in the event of a war. That computer, or gaming console won't be available. The clothes you wear, and even the plate you eat off won't be there because the USA produces steel, vinyl, and components. We don't have the processes to make a finished good anymore. We only refine.

2020-12-30 16:06:38 UTC

The USA manufacturing world is in a sad state of affairs. Even 3M produces most of it's own stuff out of the USA.

2020-12-30 16:07:03 UTC
