when you have an inch and a half thick bundle of cable running along the wall the last thing you need is to add four inches of adapters

you could put the adapter on screen side / behind the screen if that's the only reason

the weight makes the connection unstable since displayport isn't latching

or use a DP-HDMI cable

DP on video card side, HDMI on monitor side

dp-hdmi cable doesn't work for this, need an active adapter

the only monitors I can think of with your constraints are professional eizo devices >1k

tbh i may even go for usb3.0 displays if there really isn't any sub-$200 monitor with DP

only one of my VMs has a desktop environment installed so the rest i can have a smaller window for, four terminal emulators tiled per monitor on 1280x1024 monitors with a small font in the terminal works great for the rest
