Also the CDC says the virus is airborne if you believe them
Js
(My mom was an oncology nurse but unfortunately she didnt have a respirator)
I work in oncology as well. They say it's airborne because the droplets could be suspended in the air for a bit, but the virus itself isn't airborne. It's not like tuberculosis where you would need an n95. Nurses are at risk because they deal with covid patients. When those patients go to the washroom, when they cough in their hands and touch things like doorknobs, etc etc anything can be a surface of contact and then if you were to touch it and let's say you rubbed your eye later on without throughly washing your hands, you could get it
Front line workers will always be more at risk because they're literally around people with covid for long periods of times and the any contact surface object could potentially have covid on it
For the average aindividual, my point still stands that as mask is better than no mask as long as one understands exactly how it works and what else they need to do to protect themselves
For example, if I have a mask on and you have a mask on and we're close to each other and talking face to face, my spit isn't going to somehow float to the side of my mask, escape, then somehow fly over, and float into the side of your mask, go into your mouth and infect you, that isn't how it works
You dont need an n95 for covid as its not a true airborne disease like tuberculosis
It is airborne and droplet
I never said a mask wasnt better than no mask, but unless its a respirator its ineffective at filtering the virus
I can assure my mom needed a respirator....
We don't use respirators here on the covid wards and we are fine
If the disease was airborne, a lot more people would be getting it, and social distancing wouldn't work at all
" Airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur during medical procedures that generate aerosols (“aerosol generating procedures”).(12) WHO, together with the scientific community, has been actively discussing and evaluating whether SARS-CoV-2 may also spread through aerosols in the absence of aerosol generating procedures, particularly in indoor settings with poor ventilation."
"Experimental studies have generated aerosols of infectious samples using high-powered jet nebulizers under controlled laboratory conditions. These studies found SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA in air samples within aerosols for up to 3 hours in one study (21) and 16 hours in another, which also found viable replication-competent virus.(22) These findings were from experimentally induced aerosols that do not reflect normal human cough conditions."
A respirator would work in an environment where aerosols occurred, which doesn't typically happen even in normal hospital wards
"TB bacteria are spread through the air from one person to another. The TB bacteria are put into the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, speaks, or sings. People nearby may breathe in these bacteria and become infected."
TB is spread without introducing aerosols that don't reflect normal human coughing conditions.
That's a true airborne disease
