How did he violate the Constitution when prior to secession, the South was in violation of the Constitution through the institution of Slavery
He suspended habeas corpus, arrested dissenters, took guns, and launched a war in the absence of Congress

Southern states already had ideas for abolition. They just didn't want the Big Government telling them what to do
There is no quarter for enemy combatants. Suspension of habeas corpus is justifiable in such a wartime scenario.
