2020-12-01 05:09:36 UTC

i really hate how people use fascism to portray anything authoritarian

2020-12-01 05:09:49 UTC

unless you are talking about 1930s italian government its not fascist

2020-12-01 05:09:50 UTC

stop being so fascist k

2020-12-01 05:10:15 UTC

words usually mean what people mean them to mean

2020-12-01 05:10:26 UTC

but we have a word

2020-12-01 05:10:28 UTC

thats more accurate

2020-12-01 05:10:30 UTC

authoritarian

2020-12-01 05:10:34 UTC

so if someone is using the word fascist, they usually mean something specific

2020-12-01 05:10:42 UTC

authoritarian doesn't mark all the traits of fascism

2020-12-01 05:10:56 UTC

yes but people just use 'fascism' as any power structure i dont like

2020-12-01 05:11:12 UTC

'Authoritarian' is a great word to use when talking about authoritarianism.

2020-12-01 05:11:19 UTC

@ImNotGas Well, people use 'communism' in exactly that way, as well.

2020-12-01 05:12:24 UTC

not really

2020-12-01 05:12:30 UTC

people just confuse socialism and communism

2020-12-01 05:12:36 UTC

Oh, they sure as hell do.

2020-12-01 05:12:40 UTC

I'm happy to not be a Russian Bot lately.

2020-12-01 05:12:50 UTC

Twitter has been on fire today. Hilarious

2020-12-01 05:13:07 UTC

And they *also* conflate it with socialism.

2020-12-01 05:13:20 UTC

Catching up now lol

2020-12-01 05:13:56 UTC

Check out Lin Wood. He had me in tears laughing

2020-12-01 05:13:58 UTC

eh lefty people dont go accusing right wing people of being communists

2020-12-01 05:14:10 UTC

but righty people do the lame "SEE THEY ARE THE REAL FASCISTS"

2020-12-01 05:14:26 UTC

fascism includes a certain kind of economic policy (picking favorite/loyal corps, destroying the rest), and a kind of populism (support me and I'll give you what you want! all the other politicians are establishment and only paying lip service! I'll take money from one group and give it to another!), a kind of traditionalism (we will return the glorious past!), a scapegoat (these guys are responsible for our troubles!), making everyone take sides (are you a patriot? or not?), over-glorification of the military into everyday life (large parades, banners; socially punishing anyone who criticizes the military), and loyalty to the leader (socially punishing those who disagree with him) among other characteristics. So when people see some of this stuff, they call it "fascist". I agree that it gets abused a lot, but you are also oversimplifying how language is used.

We can do with a dose of Russian. Those Pesky Russians.

2020-12-01 05:14:31 UTC

right wing boomers fall in this paradigm of Democrats are the real ____

2020-12-01 05:15:29 UTC

@realz so stalin is a fascist?

2020-12-01 05:15:47 UTC

he had a lot of fascist ideals lol

2020-12-01 05:15:51 UTC

but don't tell him that to his face

2020-12-01 05:19:16 UTC

@ImNotGas Righty people are the ones who do the blanket communism thing...for anything left. Lefties call anything conservative fascist.

But the interesting thing you mentioned was the bizarre script flipping thing the right does with 'fascist'. They do mean 'authoritarian', I think.

2020-12-01 05:19:45 UTC

@Zuluzeit i mean left wing people confuse anything authoritarian with fascism as well

2020-12-01 05:20:04 UTC

@Zuluzeit fascism is more than just auth-right

2020-12-01 05:20:38 UTC

Oh yes. But it's ridiculous hyperbole when lefties use it. I am familiar with fascism.

2020-12-01 05:20:42 UTC

I’m using fascism to describe a very specific and evil form of authoritarianism:

1. The merger of the state and the media. Using the state to censor threatening views.
2. The merger of the state and private business. The destruction of small business in favor of large corporations in which the state owns an ever increasing stake.
3. The merger of state and religion. Critical theory policies and the deconstruction of western culture in favor of the “cult” of science and government.
4. Race-based distribution of wealth and civil rights. Neo segregation and equity policies.
5. Disarming the populace.
6. Strengthening the military presence around the world and playing superpower.
7. Abolition of privacy.

I’d argue this is the modern left’s platform.

2020-12-01 05:21:20 UTC

They also seem unaware of their own authoritarianism

2020-12-01 05:21:33 UTC

1.,2,5,7 present in all authoritarian regimes
