Would be great if you can. Thank you.
I respect hustle. π€·π»ββοΈ Hand outs can quickly become handicaps.
Prior to the 80's, we used to institutionalize those that could not take care of themselves. That had its own issues, but we just basically put them on the street when Reagan ended that practice in an effort to partially pay for eliminating the top tax bracket. That's an over-simplification, but you get the idea. The top tax bracket also had the net result of getting companies to spread the wealth around (strong middle class) and providing an incentive to invest in R&D. Overpaying employees or carrying huge profits would result in paying a higher percentage to the govt. There's a ton of data to support this, but that is why pre-1980's we didn't rely on the government as much.
@TaLoN132 the Mental Health Act was adopted in 1963 under JFK. I'm not sure how Reagan ended the practice ...
This appears to be another analysis of the media feed data (NEP->NYT)... It only is meaningful in that context. If the source data is not from one of the media feeds, I'd love to know how to get a copy.
> Few anticipated how quickly President Kennedyβs aspiration of reducing the institutional population by half would be realized. By 1980, the inpatient population at public psychiatric hospitals had declined by 75%.
So what you claim happened in the 80s actually happened before the 80s
I am relying on memory on this one. I remember at the time there being concern about Reagan emptying the institutions. I have an aunt that has severe schizophrenia and our family was concerned what we would do if she took a turn for the worst. I was relatively young then, so my memory may be hampered by not fully understanding the family dynamic.
@TaLoN132 I have a brother with severe schizophrenia. The situation we currently have for taking care of people with severe mental illness is dire at best and in my opinion inhumane. I do think it was an unintended consequence of something that had good intentions. But I just want to make sure that people are not incorrectly blamed for something they didn't do. Although I doubt Reagan's policies made the situation better, in fact I'm almost sure they probably made it worse ...
I am conflating a couple of things... There was legislation enacted under Carter - the MHSA - that attempted to provide funds to help with community health care. That was repealed a year later by Reagan. Had to Google it.
Rosalynn Carter is a big advocate for people with mental illness.
All the world's problems have been solved? We can all go back to sleep???
Among other things, getting the Christmas (as promised, I did not abbrev.) decorations down and getting them ready. How about you?
I don't know... Am I in charge yet? π
Just hanging out aka. work
@Maw gotta say CA was a little nitpicky in the document. It was mountains away from spiderdudes testimony. Not particularly suprising CA is practically its own country when it comes to this stuff and they are just awful at it. Also those are the older models than the Georgia ones. Texas seemed to feel the machines had some merit allowing a back and forth to correct the flaws found in the machines. It is reasonable for states to have different standards by which they feel voting machines are within a tolerable level of risk. I don't see anything rising to the level of this machine is useless we should never use them ever.
@Dedkraken, you just advanced to level 14!
I am between projects right now, so taking advantage of the time. Contract work is feast or famine.
I did contract work for a while it was nice to have some different environments to keep things fresh but then decided I needed more stability if I wanted to do the whole wife + house thing π
Yeah, itβs interesting. If you know, why would that happen in the mediaβs feed? Iβve reached out for a link.
@yetiCodes, you just advanced to level 7!
Even if there were facts no way prove now.
I was thinking about a blockchain voting system
Fortunately, the stability comes from the wife, including medical coverage. I do fine, but in spurts.
thats fair
I find it hard to believe that Grandma would able to administer blockchain interface...
The media feed data cannot be assumed to be consistent. It is not a direct link between the voting system to the media company. I think it's important to know how that data is gathered. The AP does the same thing as NEP. This is how the AP describes their data collection process: https://www.ap.org/en-us/topics/politics/elections/counting-the-vote
CNN fact-check is an oxymoron.
Blockchain is interesting and secure but how would you want it to apply to the voting system. Lots of times these days people say we need to use blockchain for that. Okay how we going to do that?
Thinking about blockchain made me remember estonia
Ah, I see your point. That makes sense to me. π€
theres probably some articles about it I should track down if I find some extra time π
I don't want to get attacked...
But
Blockchain seems like over engineering. What about in person paper ballots?
