No... She was square. Grew up a military brat, met my dad towards the end of HS and they were married in 6 months - thinking my Dad was going to Vietnam. I was born 10 months later. Mom was 19 and dad had just turned 20. A few years later, we were stationed in Athens, Greece and my Dad managed to avoid Vietnam altogether.
I see. So its just the fashion of the era, then, because from that description I cant imagine there is much psychological overlap between your mother and Commissar Y.

It's hard to explain. The woman I knew seemed a little off in retrospect, but otherwise normal. She had her routine. She went by Emily Montague when I knew her.
Interesting that she always keeps her first name.
Must be a grand-parent somewhere there.

Mom was English (M) / German (P)... Emily Montague Schwartz - so possible German. Montague could be English... So, yeah. My Mom was a couple of years younger.
