Ok, then educate me.... why did the southern slave states decide to succeed?
I can't teach you to read too.
I just put numerous reasons why
States rights is a cover story in my opinion.
I agree.
Yep. The only State's Right that they were concerned with was their "right" to own people.
I am only stating that we need to put forth all of the reasons for the Civil War, and not just one.
Exactly
No, that was not the only thing. Like I typed earlier, there were several factors. But slavery was a big one.
which is why even the black slave owners sesnt their black slaves to fight in the civil war
One could say it was the primary reason.
One could say that, but one would be inaccurate.
Sure there were all kinds of issues but at the end of the day it all fractions out to slavery. Sorry, but that's the truth.
It served as a rallying cry
and it worked
Mississippi's Declaration of Secession: "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery - the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product, which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization."
and it is a good thing.
They literally told you the reason is slavery
This is funny... This conversation started because busillis's speech to text changed Generally to General Lee...
very funny
I don't think any of it should be banned, or else you lose the facts of history and people make it up along the way.
How about Texas.... let see what they said:
"In all the non-slave-holding States, in violation of that good faith and comity which should exist between entirely distinct nations, the people have formed themselves into a great sectional party, now strong enough in numbers to control the affairs of each of those States, based upon an unnatural feeling of hostility to these Southern States and their beneficent and patriarchal system of African slavery, proclaiming the debasing doctrine of equality of all men, irrespective of race or color-- a doctrine at war with nature, in opposition to the experience of mankind, and in violation of the plainest revelations of Divine Law. They demand the abolition of negro slavery throughout the confederacy, the recognition of political equality between the white and negro races, and avow their determination to press on their crusade against us, so long as a negro slave remains in these States."
JFC, reading that is cringe.
Good God that's horrible.
still not the only reason. There were many reasons, and slavery was a major rallying cry. The call for succession began long before, but the election of Abraham Lincoln was the catalyst.
Well... maybe Texas and Mississippi just got it wrong, they dont speak for the entire Confederacy, right @Liberty or Death ? Let see what the VP of the Confederacy had to say:
"Many governments have been founded upon the principle of the subordination and serfdom of certain classes of the same race; such were and are in violation of the laws of nature. Our system commits no such violation of nature’s laws. With us, all of the white race, however high or low, rich or poor, are equal in the eye of the law. Not so with the negro. Subordination is his place. He, by nature, or by the curse against Canaan, is fitted for that condition which he occupies in our system. The architect, in the construction of buildings, lays the foundation with the proper material-the granite; then comes the brick or the marble. The substratum of our society is made of the material fitted by nature for it, and by experience we know that it is best, not only for the superior, but for the inferior race, that it should be so. It is, indeed, in conformity with the ordinance of the Creator. It is not for us to inquire into the wisdom of His ordinances, or to question them. For His own purposes, He has made one race to differ from another, as He has made “one star to differ from another star in glory. The great objects of humanity are best attained when there is conformity to His laws and decrees, in the formation of governments as well as in all things else. Our confederacy is founded upon principles in strict conformity with these laws."

@Liberty or Death, you sir are the only one dealing in revisionist history. Not me.
Come on you know that's not true.
Seriously I can't even read these without cringing.
No I am not, and supposed to be a teacher.
Slavery was what it was exactly all about.
They're so vehemently laced with vile racism. Ugh.
Yep.... I know
I never said that salvery wasn't a reason, I said it wasn't the only one
Those Southern Democrats were real pieces of work...
It's the reason that all the other reasons are built from.
Are you even reading these quotes? These are the Succession Statements... the freaking reason stated for them leaving the Union.
So it was the reason.
It was a reason, a major reason, and was the final rallying cry. but the push for succession had been happening for some time
and slavery was one of many reasons
