Theres been a definite push of dishonesty claiming the aclu is far more left than they actually are. Some claim weird stuff like they never back Christian's in lawsuits and stuff which is demonstrably false. I think this persists due to a mixture of other religions rights are trampled more often, christians claim victim more often w/o a case, more legal groups outside the aclu are avaialable. But that's just my opinion dont have hard facts on case numbers and quality.
