So, I was thinking about my journey to apply for a rifle / shotgun license where I live here in NY. For where I live, you need to submit what amounts to a 40 page application to the NYPD just for the ability to purchase a rifle / shotgun (separate application for a handgun) to keep in your home.
While thinking about this, and for now I am not going to bother spending the $350 non-refundable application fee to do so, I was thinking about the Heller decision and got to reading this great article about the strict scrutiny standard applied in Heller:

This got me to wondering if the NYPD's permit license application process would ever survive a strict scrutiny standard
let alone NY's laws about magazine capacity and assault rifle definition
...
Clearly I failed @Zuluzeit#7399

Yep; now you see what I'm up against.
In a nutshell, it's cost / time / practically prohibitive for me to even be allowed to exercise my constitutional right to have a firearm at all. any firearm
Maybe you should look into getting a musket
You might be able to possess the musket in 2/3 of the material required to fire it...
@Maw Let me know how if you know how he was destroyed by a bad medical corps.
Or perhaps a musket...
Perhaps the swivel Cannon could be a way to prepare for civil war without having to face the background check for a firearm.
If you want to fight a civil war, you need a significant actor to fund you first.
True
I don't know why the guy wants to firearm in New York City...
who?
I was just throwing it out there because it seems hyperbolic..
I have no idea what this is about. Do remember I do not watch TV and does not read papers.
what is the video?
Just this guy who wants a firearm...
People shooting cannons...
join a club?
And the musket
It probably be pretty fun to shoot...
Just for fun...
my gun club has a western subsection and a black powder sub section.
they fire muskets and such
Cool.. and some states in the United States I don't think any background check is required for ball and shot weapons..
well, if you are barred from owning a gun, it is usually for good reason, yes?
I think in New York you can possess the weapon if it's antique and then you can have 2/3 of the components required to fire it... So they've effectively closed that loophole.
