So, I was thinking about my journey to apply for a rifle / shotgun license where I live here in NY. For where I live, you need to submit what amounts to a 40 page application to the NYPD just for the ability to purchase a rifle / shotgun (separate application for a handgun) to keep in your home.

While thinking about this, and for now I am not going to bother spending the $350 non-refundable application fee to do so, I was thinking about the Heller decision and got to reading this great article about the strict scrutiny standard applied in Heller:

This got me to wondering if the NYPD's permit license application process would ever survive a strict scrutiny standard

2020-12-28 18:01:51 UTC

let alone NY's laws about magazine capacity and assault rifle definition

@Zuluzeit what's she doubling down on?

@busillis Who? Melissa Carone?

2020-12-28 18:04:14 UTC

You said down on and I'm wondering what's she down on? @Zuluzeit

Yep; now you see what I'm up against.

2020-12-28 18:56:45 UTC

In a nutshell, it's cost / time / practically prohibitive for me to even be allowed to exercise my constitutional right to have a firearm at all. any firearm

2020-12-28 20:23:29 UTC

Maybe you should look into getting a musket

2020-12-28 20:23:50 UTC

You might be able to possess the musket in 2/3 of the material required to fire it...

2020-12-28 23:24:51 UTC

@Maw Let me know how if you know how he was destroyed by a bad medical corps.

2020-12-28 23:25:45 UTC

@Doc any thoughts on a swivel Cannon in New York City?

2020-12-28 23:25:59 UTC

Or perhaps a musket...

2020-12-28 23:26:26 UTC

I have no idea what that is? I know what a swivel cannon is, but not of any in NYC

2020-12-28 23:27:03 UTC

Perhaps the swivel Cannon could be a way to prepare for civil war without having to face the background check for a firearm.

2020-12-28 23:27:49 UTC

If you want to fight a civil war, you need a significant actor to fund you first.

2020-12-28 23:28:13 UTC

True

2020-12-28 23:28:27 UTC

I don't know why the guy wants to firearm in New York City...

2020-12-28 23:28:33 UTC

who?

2020-12-28 23:28:36 UTC

I was just throwing it out there because it seems hyperbolic..

2020-12-28 23:29:02 UTC

I have no idea what this is about. Do remember I do not watch TV and does not read papers.

2020-12-28 23:29:32 UTC

what is the video?

2020-12-28 23:29:36 UTC

Just this guy who wants a firearm...

2020-12-28 23:29:42 UTC

People shooting cannons...

2020-12-28 23:29:48 UTC

join a club?

2020-12-28 23:29:49 UTC

And the musket

2020-12-28 23:30:10 UTC

It probably be pretty fun to shoot...

2020-12-28 23:30:15 UTC

Just for fun...

2020-12-28 23:30:38 UTC

my gun club has a western subsection and a black powder sub section.

2020-12-28 23:30:45 UTC

they fire muskets and such

2020-12-28 23:31:13 UTC

Cool.. and some states in the United States I don't think any background check is required for ball and shot weapons..

2020-12-28 23:31:42 UTC

well, if you are barred from owning a gun, it is usually for good reason, yes?

2020-12-28 23:32:29 UTC

I think in New York you can possess the weapon if it's antique and then you can have 2/3 of the components required to fire it... So they've effectively closed that loophole.
