@Deleted User if you have questions about the Catholic faith you're welcome to join the server "Catholic Community Chat"

@Vincentius Hey sorry for the ping but, you seem pretty knowledge about Catholic teachings. I'm a Protestant but, is there anything resource-wise you'd recommend for someone who wants to give Catholicism a fair shake?

2020-10-31 23:25:08 UTC

Of course. The best place to start is the Catechism. There's many different versions due to developments over time but I personally recommend the Catechism of the Council of Trent since it was written in response to the rise of the Protestant revolt. You should be able to find a free PDF online. In terms of websites there's vatican.va which contains important magisterial documents, catholic answers website catholic.com for various questions, newadvent.org that provides various works connected to the church (church fathers, ecumenical councils, St. Thomas Aquina's *Summa*, etc) and of course you can find the rosary prayer anywhere. You're also welcome to join the server i linked above, lmk if you need anything else.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I'll start to go over some of these in the morning. God bless!

@Deleted User Alright. If you ever want to know more about Orthodoxy, don't let the bitterness from those inside or outside of it sway your opinion too much. Religion is naturally a touchy subject.

2020-10-31 23:48:06 UTC

I can link you some people worth watching or servers worth joining.

One thing we have in common between us Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians is St. Benedict

2020-11-01 03:18:59 UTC

Reason I say that is because he's one of my favorites

2020-11-01 03:42:02 UTC

St. Benedict is pretty cool. My priest took that name.

2020-11-01 05:46:59 UTC

I took Saint Peter's name when i was confirmed

2020-11-01 17:22:54 UTC

I’m likely taking St. Silouan the Athonite.

2020-11-01 22:13:41 UTC

Do you guys think once Carlo is cannonized he'll be the patron saint of gamers?

2020-11-01 22:25:46 UTC

Who?

2020-11-01 22:28:04 UTC

Carlo Acutis. Young Catholic boy who died from leukemia in '06 and was beatified recently

2020-11-01 22:30:07 UTC

How is he a gamer

2020-11-01 22:44:59 UTC

Wow thats really sad to hear

2020-11-01 22:45:16 UTC

Hope he's with God now

2020-11-02 00:38:56 UTC

Goodness guys

2020-11-02 00:39:10 UTC

My parents think that watching the mass on tv is valid

2020-11-02 00:40:10 UTC

And when I said, "its not actually the mass happening right now in our home, thats not possible" they told me that Im telling them that they are going to hell for doing so 🤦‍♀️

2020-11-02 00:40:20 UTC

Boomers are fucking stupid

2020-11-02 00:42:46 UTC

Obviously its a good thing that we watch the mass on television, but to say it is a legitimate form of mass is false

2020-11-02 00:43:00 UTC

I mean, I'd say that it's better than nothing, no?

2020-11-02 00:43:29 UTC

It is better than nothing, but to say it is legitimate is false

2020-11-02 00:44:00 UTC

You cant just record the concecration of the hoast and that means it happens again

2020-11-02 00:44:05 UTC

Its not possible

2020-11-02 00:45:40 UTC

you can't receive through a TV screen

2020-11-02 00:45:50 UTC

Exactly

2020-11-02 00:46:34 UTC

And my parents have the audacity to tell me that when I said what I said to them that I meant that they are going to hell for not going to church

2020-11-02 00:46:43 UTC

This is just ignorance

2020-11-02 00:49:43 UTC

They wont even let me finish explaining to them that the mass isnt something you can just watch on TV

2020-11-02 00:50:24 UTC

They just keep telling me, "stop being disobedient!"

2020-11-02 00:51:34 UTC

> you can't receive through a TV screen
@Vincentius you're also not joined with the whole body of Christ by watching it on tv as you are when you attend mass

2020-11-02 00:56:12 UTC

sounds like pride on their part. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in section 2180, specifies that the Sunday obligation is satisfied by ‘assistance’ at Mass. if they're able to attend a church or oratory they must do so

2020-11-02 01:10:15 UTC

I will be attending whatever outdoor or socially distanced mass from now on by myself. After I go to confession of course

2020-11-02 01:10:57 UTC

indoor mass is closed by you?

2020-11-02 01:11:22 UTC

Our archbishop's orders, not the government

2020-11-02 01:12:48 UTC

What I find quite funny is the mass is "BYOC" which means bring you're own chair

2020-11-02 01:13:32 UTC

As it is outdoors, and we cannot take the pews outside
