aside from the bible, where did this idea originate from

2019-07-02 04:27:40 UTC

i think someone thought that the earth was flying through a medium, and that was called the firmament

2019-07-02 04:28:07 UTC

the earth does not move

2019-07-02 04:28:19 UTC

the firmament was there since day 2 of Creation

2019-07-02 04:28:35 UTC

'aside from the bible,'

2019-07-02 04:38:50 UTC

Aside from the bible, are there other interpretations of the origin of the firmament

2019-07-02 04:42:53 UTC

I'd like to set religion aside for this and want to see what other scientific observations led to this conclusion

2019-07-02 04:43:08 UTC

it's one thing to say what we understand is created from our religion, it's another to say exactly why

2019-07-02 04:48:17 UTC

from what i understand here was a man that though the earth was flying through a medium, he did some testing to see if this was correct, and found there to be no medium, or firmament

2019-07-02 04:49:06 UTC

what tests did he do

2019-07-02 04:49:07 UTC

That goes hard against the religious belief as well, don't know how they would respond to that

2019-07-02 04:49:29 UTC

I don't really like answers saying that the bible is 100% true, because that implies a lot of bad things that the bible says

2019-07-02 04:49:43 UTC

you cant really argue against god because its not falsifiable

2019-07-02 04:49:54 UTC

Hostile defense religious arguments kind of defeat the purpose of the debate

2019-07-02 04:50:06 UTC

they just fall behind a failsafe and you can't really prod it without exploding

2019-07-02 04:50:34 UTC

they can just explain anything with "because god"

2019-07-02 04:50:51 UTC

why is the sky blue? because god made it blue

2019-07-02 04:51:01 UTC

and it works

2019-07-02 04:51:09 UTC

even when there is a clear non-religious explanation they just fall behind the safe word

2019-07-02 04:52:54 UTC

he theorised that if there was a firmament, then light would travel faster in one direction then the other, as one way the light would be going against the firmament, the test he did did not fined these results, this test was conducted using the globe model, and i am trying to fined out who actually did it, this is just from memory

2019-07-02 05:02:50 UTC

@Nico2020 sounds like michelson and morley

2019-07-02 05:03:05 UTC

idk

2019-07-02 05:03:09 UTC

prob

2019-07-02 05:03:29 UTC

they found that earth was still in the aether

2019-07-02 05:03:40 UTC

by testing light speed

2019-07-02 05:03:51 UTC

then einstein came up with a theory that said the earth was still moving

2019-07-02 05:04:10 UTC

but that the aether didn't exist

2019-07-02 05:18:52 UTC

The Michelson Morely experiment concluded that aether doesn't exist.

2019-07-02 11:52:50 UTC

Wrong

2019-07-02 12:35:01 UTC

how so?

2019-07-02 13:18:42 UTC

It wasnt conclusive

2019-07-02 13:20:28 UTC

Actual results say the earth is at rest

2019-07-02 13:21:35 UTC

Other experiments confirm an ether

2019-07-02 13:23:58 UTC

Michaelson morely experiment wasn't conclusive cuz it tried to prove ether and failed

2019-07-02 13:25:44 UTC

also, the two lasers deviating a little was the expected result and the actual resukt

2019-07-02 13:25:50 UTC

gravitational waves are real

2019-07-02 13:25:54 UTC

stop lying

2019-07-02 13:27:55 UTC

No it confirmed the earth isnt moving
