Germany was made up of city states mostly. That's why there's still such a drastic dialectic difference in the german language
Prussia, Hesse, Westphalia, Saxony, etc.
Bavaria
Yupp ^ Like when I lived in Northern Germany people there talked shit on Bavaria all the time, and said they didnt speak 'real german'
ultimately though, I don't think people should really have a say on what happens in their homeland unless they actually commit to it and live in it
@Jacob There were less than, like, 60,000 Sorbians the better part of twenty years ago, and they're probably being completely assimilated into what's left of German culture at this point. Probably not feasible. Internal autonomy, if nothing else, but even that would be a bit dodgy, because there's even a little bit of division between Upper and Lower Sorbs.
right
I agree about not having a say unless you have a stake.
it was more of a thought exercise on what happens if we take this to the logical conclusion
@Jacob No u.

It's how America conquered the west. Anyone can claim it, but whoever settles it and works the land owns it
Fair enough. I just though I'd jump into the clusterf@#$ and indulge in a bit of <:avtism:359037377919844352>, lol.
@Drover Tom This topic really tickles my tism’
Not gonna lie, I do plan on voting in Polish elections in 2019. But that's because, if I don't vote, someone else who doesn't have a stake is gonna vote and they're gonna vote for something worse.
@DixieBoy76 - KY what was that in response to?
@Jacob Not sure I just was being dumb
oh lol
anyway, ideally every country would repeal the right to vote for citizens abroad
Lol there's still people in Germany that have Ostpreussen meetups
A lot of countries don't allow non-resident citizens to vote.
Or SOCV
@Bjorn - MD good
Not us, though... 😑
I just don’t want the Prussian phenotype to go extinct guys 😢
my first act as president would be revoking my own right to vote <:galaxybrain:366743669484683264>
@DixieBoy76 - KY its just a bunch of old people who were born in east prussia before it was lost and had to leave lmao
@DixieBoy76 - KY Same, though I'm insufficiently versed in the subject to know if Prussians actually constitute a phenotype unto themselves, lol. Definitely don't want to see the language go extinct, though.
My grandma actually moved into a house that was formerly inhabited my Germans and they left a painting or something behind. Still has it.
There's not really a phenotype for it, cuz thats mine above
When I inherit it I should give it "back" to one of you guys and complete the cycle
I'll just give it to someone else
I wonder if we actually have anyone here who had German family that was kicked out after WWII
@Jacob Was *this* the painting? 😏
that would be spooky
@Jacob I’ll keep it if you give it to me
Lol
I think they'd all be in South America @Jacob
