Don’t be afraid of me.

damn, not being able to sleep sucks :/

2019-09-03 08:22:31 UTC

indeed, sleep is important to function properly

2019-09-03 08:23:27 UTC

i procrastinate sleeping

2019-09-03 08:25:47 UTC

in the solar system you can tell how many AU something is far from eact other without knowing how long an AU is

2019-09-03 08:26:58 UTC

there was a time where we knew the distance between each planet ti a higher precision in AU than we knew of the length of an AU

2019-09-03 08:27:55 UTC

thats contradictory

2019-09-03 08:27:58 UTC

how so

2019-09-03 08:28:30 UTC

if you dont know the length of an au, then you cant mesaure how many aus are between things

2019-09-03 08:28:35 UTC

you can

2019-09-03 08:28:40 UTC

nope

2019-09-03 08:28:51 UTC

whats goin on

2019-09-03 08:28:59 UTC

its called trigonometrey
you can find the ratios between each side length without knowing the lengths themselves

2019-09-03 08:30:40 UTC

using the angle angle side rule
even if you dont know the length of the side
you vcan just define that side as one of that sidelength and then get the other side length in ratio to that

2019-09-03 08:32:05 UTC

as we did with defining the distance between the sun and earth as one AU
then we did the trigonemetry between each other planet
to get the distance to and between those in AU

2019-09-03 08:33:27 UTC

so you can know to a higher presition of AU between the planets than the length of an AU itself

2019-09-03 08:33:50 UTC

you dont even need to know the lengh of an AU

2019-09-03 08:34:43 UTC

same way you can grab a stick
not know its length at all but still measure things in units of that length to a prety high precision
