The relationship between our people and their state with Israel is one that is based on the conflict between our people and our state, which is under occupation, and the occupation force,” the PNC said in a statement issued after its 23rd conference in Ramallah. “The PNC calls for reconsidering all the [Palestinian] obligations that contradict [this stance].”

The PNC also entrusted the PLO Executive Committee with the task of “revoking” the PLO’s recognition of Israel until Israel recognizes the Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines, rescinds its [1968] decision to annex east Jerusalem and halts settlement construction.

In 1993, the PLO recognized Israel’s right to exist in peace and security, accepted United Nations resolutions 242 and 338, and rejected “violence and terrorism.” The recognition was included in a letter sent by former PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat to then Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

The PNC emphasized the need to implement an earlier decision by another PLO body, the PLO Central Council, to halt all forms of security coordination between the PA and Israel.

Earlier this year, the PLO Central Council also decided that the agreements signed between the Palestinians and Israel, including the Oslo Accords, were no longer effective, and reiterated its refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

On the eve of the PLO gathering, the PA’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning what it called Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank. It was responding to a report to the effect that Israel had approved the building of 20 new housing units in the settlement of Metzad in Gush Etzion.

The PA ministry claimed that the decision was part of an Israeli scheme to prevent the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state. It also lashed out at the US administration, saying it was “seriously and publicly involved” in Israeli settlement policies.

2018-07-27 21:42:00 UTC

The PA ministry denounced recent statements by US Ambassador to the United Nations in support of Israel, and said her position “exposed the magnitude of blind American bias in favor of the occupation and settlements.”

One thing is for sure: If Twitter continues to delete fake, spam or robot accounts, these numbers are likely to keep dropping.
Over the past 30 days, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lost close to 30,000 Twitter followers.

Was it something he said? Not exactly.

Since Twitter announced earlier this month that it would be deleting millions of fake accounts, many prominent users have lost tens of thousands – or even millions – of followers. So how did the most Twitter-famous Israelis fare?

How many fake Twitter followers does Netanyahu have?
The most popular Israeli on Twitter – superstar Gal Gadot – came out of it pretty well. Since the Twitter purge began, Gadot lost around 12,000 followers, a drop in the bucket of her almost 2 million Twitter fans. In fact, over the past 30 days, Gadot ended up with a net gain of 20,000 followers despite the culling.

Netanyahu, the second-most popular Israeli on Twitter, saw more of a hit, but still not a serious one. The prime minister dropped more than 28,000 followers in the past month, around 2% of his 1.3 million followers.

Supermodel Bar Refaeli, who uses her Twitter account almost exclusively to link to Instagram photos, lost close to 37,000 followers in the past 30 days; almost 4% of her more than one million Twitter fans.

2018-07-27 21:43:09 UTC

Another Israeli with a significant social media following is comedian Guri Alfi, who dropped more than 17,000 followers in the past 30 days; just over 4% of his more than 400,000 fans.

When Twitter announced the move earlier this month, it noted that “most people will see a change of four followers or fewer; others with larger follower counts will experience a more significant drop.” The reason for the decision, it said, was so people can “have confidence that the numbers [of followers] are meaningful and accurate.”

Where do all these fake accounts come from? There are many companies that sell fake followers to those who want to increase their numbers. But robot accounts can follow anyone they choose, and often follow a wide variety of people in an effort to look more realistic. Fake accounts also exist for many reasons aside from inflating follower counts, and it’s impossible to be sure of their purpose. Twitter’s recent purge is also far from exhaustive; it noted that it specifically targeted accounts the social media giant locked due to suspicious activity.

Several media reports estimate that close to 15% of all Twitter accounts are likely fake. In an article on Gizmodo.com earlier this year, the co-founder of TwitterAudit.com says it believes 40-60% of all accounts could be bots.

Globally, many particularly popular accounts saw significant recent drops. Former US president Barack Obama lost close to 2.4 million followers in the span of one day earlier this month, though he still has more than 100 million Twitter fans. President Donald Trump, a particularly active user on the platform, saw his follower count drop around 400,000 people, though he still gained overall in the past 30 days, and stands at more than 53 million.

2018-07-27 21:43:23 UTC

Oprah Winfrey lost around 1.5 million, while Katy Perry dropped close to 3 million, and Justin Bieber saw a loss of around 2.7 million followers.

In Israel, the majority of popular Twitter accounts belong to journalists and politicians. The most followed after Netanyahu is Channel 2’s Amit Segal, who saw a drop of close to 17,000 in the past 30 days, more than 4% of his followers. Channel Ten’s Alon Ben-David lost more than 10,000 followers, while the network’s Raviv Drucker dropped just under 10,000.

The Zionist Union’s Shelly Yacimovich saw close to 9,000 followers disappear in the past month and Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett lost just over 8,000 in the same period.

One thing is for sure: If Twitter continues to delete fake, spam or robot accounts, these numbers are likely to keep dropping.

As a soldier, it is my duty to respond to Trump’s threats. If he wants to use the language of threat, he should talk to me, not the president (Hassan Rouhani),” said Major General Qassem Soleimani.
Iran’s commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani warned US President Donald Trump against threatening Iran, promising that were the US to begin a war Iran would finish it.

“Gambler Trump! I alone will stand against you. We, the Iranian nation, have gone through tough events. You [may] begin a war, but it is us who will end it. Go ask your predecessors [about it]. So stop threatening [us]... We are ready to stand against you,” Soleimani was quoted as saying by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency in the central city of Hamedan.

“We are near you, where you can’t even imagine... Come. We are ready,” he said.

Earlier in the week, Trump threatened Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Twitter, warning in text written in all caps locks of unprecedented “consequences” if Tehran would threaten Washington:

“NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!”

On Thursday, Soleimani addressed Trump’s tweet, which came after Rouhani threatened that “war with Iran is the mother of all wars.”

“As a soldier, it is my duty to respond to Trump’s threats. If he wants to use the language of threat, he should talk to me, not to the president [Rouhani],” Soleimani said.

Soleimani, one of the most prominent and influential military figures in Iran also mentioned the war in Afghanistan and the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah:

2018-07-27 21:44:25 UTC

What the hell could you do during the 33-day war with the evil Israeli regime, which is like a weight hanging around your ankles? You experienced all sorts of defeats and setbacks and you are telling us what errors you can commit in Gaza? Is it not that you accepted Hezbollah’s conditions for ending the war?

“What have you been able to do [to us] over the past 20 years that you did not do? And [you] are threatening us now?” he asked.
Soleimani’s words come as tensions have risen between both the United States and Iran as well as between Israel and the Islamic Republic.

Israeli officials have repeatedly voiced concerns over the growing Iranian presence on its borders and the smuggling of sophisticated weaponry to Hezbollah from Tehran to Lebanon via Syria, stressing that both are redlines for the Jewish State.

Israel has admitted to having carried out one hundred strikes in Syria against Iranian and Hezbollah targets and is suspected of carrying out hundreds of others.

On Wednesday, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brig.-Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh stated that the IRGC’s fighter jets will be equipped with cruise missiles with a range of 1,500 kilometers.

Hajizadeh made the announcement on the sidelines of a ceremony in Tehran where 10 Sukhoi Su-22 fighter jets had been upgraded with new systems that would allow them to carry and fire smart and cluster bombs as well as air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles with pinpoint accuracy, Tasnim said.

DAUGHTER OF JEWISH BILLIONAIRE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEX CULT TIES

Clare Bronfman, along with others, recruited and groomed sexual partners for NXIVM founder, Keith Raniere, using harassment and coercion to intimidate perceived enemies of the Raniere.
Seagram heiress Clare Bronfman and three others were arrested in upstate New York for their ties to an alleged sex cult that reportedly pretends to be a self-help organization.

Bronfman, 39, daughter of the late Canadian-Jewish billionaire and philanthropist Edgar Bronfman, was charged in Albany with racketeering conspiracy in a case involving the group NXIVM, The Associated Press reported.

According to the Albany Times-Union, Bronfman and the others recruited and groomed sexual partners for NXIVM founder Keith Raniere using “harassment, coercion and abusive litigation to intimidate and attack perceived enemies and critics of Raniere.” Raniere himself was arrested four months ago in Mexico and charged with sex trafficking.

According to Binsack's daughter, he died of heart problems in Las Vegas. He was 48 years old.WOW

Bronfman has denied the allegations against her.

“NXIVM was not a criminal enterprise but instead was an organization that helped thousands of people,” her attorney, Susan Necheles, said in a statement. “The charges against Clare are the result of government overreaching and charging an individual with crimes just because the government disagrees with some beliefs taught by NXIVM and held by Clare. This is not how things should be done in America. We are confident that Clare will be exonerated.”

According to prosecutors, Bronfman used her wealth to finance NXIVM’s activities. Previous court filings indicated that Bronfman gave away millions of dollars to support the group, including paying for Raniere’s private air travel at a cost of $65,000 a flight, according to The Times of Israel.

Bronfman in a website post last year called the secret society a “sorority” that “has truly benefited the lives of its members, and does so freely.”

“I find no fault in a group of women (or men for that matter) freely taking a vow of loyalty and friendship with one another to feel safe while pushing back against the fears that have stifled their personal and professional growth,” she wrote.

Bronfman’s father, who died in 2013 at age 84, was a scion and longtime head of the Seagram’s Company, at one point the largest distiller of alcoholic beverages in the world. Edger Bronfman was president of the World Jewish Congress for many years and was a major supporter of an array of Jewish causes, including JTA, where he was a board member, and JTA’s partner site MyJewishLearning, which he founded in 2003.

The Bronfman family “is perhaps the single largest force in the Jewish charitable world,” Nathaniel Popper once wrote in the Forward.

The resolution — which passed 45-2 — made no reference to Hamas or Palestinian violence against Israel.
A United Nations body has rejected an Israeli text that called on Hamas to release Israeli captives and the bodies of IDF soldiers held in Gaza.

Israel introduced the one-line text into a wide-ranging resolution condemning Israel’s actions against the Palestinians that was approved on Tuesday in New York by the 54-member UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The resolution – which passed 45-2 – made no reference to Hamas or Palestinian violence against Israel.

The one-line amendment Israel introduced called “for the immediate release of the civilians and soldiers being held in Gaza by Hamas.”

Only five countries voted in favor of the Israeli amendment: the United States, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. Another 18 countries opposed the call to free Israeli captives.

Some 23 countries abstained, including all EU member states on the council; Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Spain and Britain.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon attacked the EU for its neutrality on Twitter.

“HARD TO BELIEVE AT THE UN! At @UNECOSOC yesterday the EU members did not support an Israel initiative to include in the usual anti Israel texts a sentence calling for the immediate release of the civilians and soldiers held in Gaza by Hamas! Disappointing,” Nahshon wrote.

Prior to the vote, US Ambassador to ECOSOC Kelley Currie said that her country once again “calls on Hamas to return the [bodies of] Israeli Defense Forces soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, as well as Israeli civilians Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, to their families immediately.

All member-states should be clear on where they stand regarding Hamas by voting in support of the amendment,” Currie said.
Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon added that both the Israelis held are “mentally disabled and in need of immediate medical attention. They [Hamas] also refuse to permit visits by the Red Cross or any other third party, or to provide information about their fate or condition.”

“We see that some countries here cannot name Hamas when it comes to condemning who is responsible for holding the bodies of Israelis,” Danon said.

The Palestinian representatives told Danon, “You would have a much stronger argument if Israel was not withholding dozens of Palestinian bodies... This practice has been going on for years.”

“Once you pursue this policy it makes it harder to be credible denouncing it,” the Palestinian representative said.

He spoke in reference to Israel’s practice, in some cases, of withholding the bodies of Palestinian terrorists responsible for killing Israelis.

At the request of the EU, the ECOSOC states approved a compromise text that spoke generally of the release of all bodies withheld as part of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Deploring the practice of withholding the bodies of those killed, and calling for the release of the bodies that have not yet been returned to their relatives, in line with international humanitarian law and human rights law, in order to ensure dignified closure in accordance with their religious beliefs and traditions.”

After the vote, Uruguay said that it supported both amendments from Israel and the EU that spoke of the return of prisoners or bodies.

“It is unpleasant to speculate or otherwise argue about bodies. It is almost immoral if we do not have clarity on these concepts.
“We have no difficulty to name the groups which obstinately refuse to return” those bodies or those people who may have “inadvertently” crossed a border in a conflict area,

2018-07-27 21:49:20 UTC

@JonJon According to Binsack's daughter, he died of heart problems in Las Vegas. He was 48 years old.

The larger pro-Palestinian resolution against Israel approved by ECOSOC, over the objections of only the United States and Canada, included 22 statements including a call to cease settlement and end all restrictions at the Gaza crossings. All ECOSOC EU member states supported the larger resolution.

An Israeli representative told the council that the larger resolution failed to mention that “Hamas controls Gaza through violence, repression, denial of basic human rights and the misuse of resources.” Nor, does the text deal with Palestinian corruption, she said.
Currie said: “The resolution and the [accompanying] report are unbalanced, and unfairly single out Israel in a forum that is not intended to be politicized.”

“This document only serves to inflame both sides of the conflict and complicate our shared goal of advancing Israeli and Palestinian peace,” Currie said. “Billions of dollars have been invested in Gaza over the past 70 years, yet as the report notes, still over half of the population lives below the poverty line.”

The primary culprit for the situation in Gaza is Hamas, not Israel, Currie said.

“Hamas must acknowledge that the existence of Israel is a permanent reality, and that the Palestinian Authority is the legitimate governing body in the Gaza Strip.

“Hamas should stop diverting funds intended for infrastructure to purchasing weapons or other nefarious uses and instead work towards peace and the prosperity of its own citizens rather than nursing their sense of grievance and victim-hood,” she said.
The Palestinian representative said, “This is not an anti-Israel resolution. This is an anti-colonialism, pro-right to self determination resolution.

2018-07-27 21:49:22 UTC

Don’t be silly

2018-07-27 21:49:37 UTC

It is because Israel has chosen to be a colonial power that it is criticized for its violations. If it makes a different choice, and the international community should push it and force it that direction than the attitude and the resolutions would be extremely different,” the Palestinian representative said.

“Can the UN take any stance except being opposed to colonialism and in favor of the right of self-determination or should it make an exception because it is the Palestinians and the Palestinian people and it is Israel,” the representatives said.
