Just got back from a walk, sorry I missed so much.
As far as the freedom thingy goes. JP is fully in the thralls of some libertarian hysteria. We must constantly redact our freedom in order to have a functioning society.
Hmm - I don’t understand your point about the healthcare system.
For profit institutions have a adopted a -just in time- production model. That means no stockpile and no waste. We had doctors and nurses reusing protective equipment between shifts due to shortages. Staff were exhausted because they were overworked, because the minimum amount of people working is the most profitable.
We had no spare beds, no spare wings or wards of hospitals dedicated to pandemics because maintaining those things would be unprofitable. So we had to lockdown to save lives.
Yep it’s our fault. I hear you. You’re stuck with us though. Or are you?
Our for profit healthcare system literally killed people.
(Re to stone cold from earlier. Phone died$
I see. @Malachi . Not sure if it’s just the healthcare system. I meant it’s a cost to the government or to the people, either way. I don’t think even if it was government controlled, they would constantly be wasting resources awaiting a day they might need them.
The case can be made that the inefficiencies inherent in a. Govt controlled healthcare system would not have the capacity or capability to respond to such a situation
Especially if people are allowed to say “no”
That is an important factor. I can solve so many more problems if I can force everyone into slavery or to act exactly as I want them to
But I can’t, I don’t want to, and I have to survive in this world of freedom just like anyone else.
Reciprocation is key to a civil society, that doesn’t mean we don’t have hierarchies, it just means “no” is uncomfortable, but not a death sentence
“No” can mean you don’t get a haircut. It can’t mean “we imprison you”
I can’t force you to give me a haircut and you can’t force me to wear a mask. It’s lovely
@StoneCold316 When I talk about changing the system, I wouldn't be advocating for a shittier system.
But if you think me not wearing a mask kills many, then you might feel just in killing me.
Admit it, is all.
@JPMcGlone What are you talking about?
Continuation of a conversation with stone earlier. The mask issue is beyond whether or not it scientifically works.
Well sure. But what is the mask issue about to you?
Mandating you wear a mask in public is....?
Yes. If I say “no” they don’t want to just deny me service (that’s reasonable) they want me@in jail
People have been arrested for hanging out in the park
Is it a public park?
What they’re telling us is “if we are afraid, we can spend your liberty instead of ours”
Do you think you should be able to walk nude in a public park?
I have conservative friends who choose to stay away from people. That’s totally fine
Indecency laws exist, at least in part, because it’s too hard to punish sex offenders in real time.
Wait, being naked is not a sex offense.
If you walk around naked and a sicko tries to rape you, the police need to get involved... so you can’t walk around naked. It’s preventative
No one said rape bud.
Being alive isn’t a crime
Well you did
I’m explaining why we have laws that are preventative
How about you answer the questions that I ask?
We impose indecency laws to prevent crime. We make it a crime because it leads to crime that we can’t protect reasonably
Being outside with my friends isn’t a crime, bud
I did answer it. Sorry you don’t understand
This is a yes or no.
Do you think you should be able to walk nude in a public park?
I’m not comparing public indecency to wearing masks
