WASHINGTON —
Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins, an important vote in the coming Supreme Court confirmation fight, said Sunday she would not support a nominee hostile to the landmark abortion ruling in Roe v. Wade.

"I would not support a nominee who demonstrated hostility to Roe v. Wade because that would mean to me that their judicial philosophy did not include a respect for established decisions, established law," Collins said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Collins said when she met with President Donald Trump to discuss the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, she encouraged Trump "to broaden his list beyond" his standing list of 25 potential choices.

LEESBURG, Fla. - Guards at a Florida jail are taking on an unusual duty. They're monitoring the bathroom habits of an inmate charged with stealing and swallowing diamond earrings.

Leesburg Police say Ryan Penman and his girlfriend tried on a pair of $700 earrings at a jewelry store Thursday. According to an arrest report, Penman tried to pay for the earrings with a credit card in a different name. When it was declined, he handed back the earrings, but the clerk said they had been replaced with fakes.

Both were taken to the hospital. An X-ray revealed the earrings were in Penman's stomach. The Daily Commercial reports Penman was taken to a jail cell without a toilet as guards wait for him to pass the evidence.

He is charged with retail grand theft and tampering with evidence.

I am happy to be a part of making sure the SPLC is listed as hate speech and therefore blocked by many antivirus products (like BitDefender) ...

CHIANG RAI (CNN) - China and Australia have joined the search for 12 boys missing in a Thai cave, as divers on Sunday closed in on the spot they believe the teens are sheltering.

The international rescue operation -- which includes over 1,000 people from Thai emergency services, the U.S. Military and British cave experts -- has been ramping up its efforts since the boys and their 25-year-old soccer coach disappeared during an outing in the caves in northern Thailand last Saturday.

Divers are now closing in on the spot where they believe the missing boys are sheltering in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system.

The elevated dry area, called Pattaya Beach, is several kilometers from the entrance of the cave.

Water from the flooded cave has receded in recent days, allowing rescue teams to gain ground, according to Chiang Rai province governor Narongsak Osatanakorn.

Oxygen tanks have been installed at 25-meter junctures for divers to use, and a water pumping machine has also being deployed, added Osatanakorn.

Heavy rains had previously hampered the rescue operation, as the caves became extremely dark and muddy.

CNN) - Mexican voters are heading to the polls Sunday in a historic election that could reshape the country.

Voters will choose a new president and make decisions on more than 18,000 other posts that are up for grabs, including a new Congress, several governorships and municipal seats, according to the Mexican Election Institute.

The election also stands to impact the country's relationship with its neighbor to the north.

Mexico's new president will have to deal with his US counterpart, President Donald Trump, along with his threats to pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement and his calls for the construction of a border wall.

To some degree the election has become a referendum on Mexico's political elite and its economic direction, as well as the tenure of the current president, Enrique Peña Nieto, who is limited to a single six-year term. Peña Nieto has been criticized by many who say he failed to adequately deal with crime, corruption and economic inequality.

Some 89 million people are eligible to vote in Sunday's elections, and millennials and the so-called Generation Z are expected to play a key role in defining the country's future.

Younger voters have grown up surrounded by rampant corruption and drug violence. They represent nearly half of all the eligible voters and nearly 13 million of them would be voting for the first time, electoral officials said.

Authorities are looking into whether the death of a man who was shot while camping with his daughters in California is linked to previous shootings at the campsite.

Tristan Beaudette was shot once in the head on June 22 as he slept in a tent with his 2- and 4-year-old daughters at the Malibu Creek State Park, officials said.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled his death a homicide this week.

In a statement, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it’s looking for links between the 35-year-old’s killing and seven shootings dating to November 2016.
