I mean I dont have a ready rebuttle for it, gneerally the idea is that its a loose conglomeration while immutable characteristics are rather solid and a legitimate tying force, and actually provide sovereinty to a person. Principles are simple arbitrary, can be changed, its just a weak thing to organize around.

It is the following events that are celebrated, one being the formation of the Americas, not who discovered America first.

columbus didnt really do much, his expedition is more of a footnote in history like "hey this man just discovered more land" *neat*
