I asked a man I trust about the verse you posted.
Believers in Christ cannot show favoritism
that is what James 2:1 is about
nationalism is inherently combative to christian virtue
No, it's not
It's not denying help to others
it excludes peoples on subjective lines and exludes people who do not believe its sentiments, a christian nation would not regress two steps back to do that
Its saying "I can't help you right now because there are millions poor and diseased here already, once I help these millions I will help you"
nationalism does not say that at all
Yes it does
In my view
1. My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3. and ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4. are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5. Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6. But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7. Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? 8. If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9. but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. 14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
it's a devotion to national affairs
It's helping your people
your people are the heirs of Christ
you keep saying your people as if it has any value outside of Christ
Helping others when you cannot even help the millions poor and diseased already here is ridiculously unrealistic
Were there any Chruch Fathers who said you cannot love your wife above your other broters in Christ?
And contrary to the point of the verse
@Doctor Anon youre adding variables to claim it's unrealistic, the fact that you have to segment helping anyone who needs it by locale is exactly what im talking about
there are plenty of nationalist leaders who did not do that
Then they aren't nationalist
by your definition
Nationalist is caring for the people around you, and not focusing abroad until your own people are well
I will repeat myself
Were there any Church Fathers who said you cannot love your wife above your other brothers in Christ?
It's incredibly foolish to help others abroad when you have millions suffering right next to you
You internationally work together to help all who need it
gee
@Vilhelmsson I don't get what you're saying, but according to mr.pebble it's a sin to love your wife more than a migrant 15000 km away
what
Favoritism
the bible specifically talks about how to treat your wife
With kindness
As if does your neighbor
Kindness
Yes, but to show partiality towards her is a transgression, is it not?
do you know what partiality is based on
To value her above others.
no, to discriminate against for immutable traits you judge as wrong
