I was reading this statement of purpose by an applicant (female) at Berkeley who eventually got selected. In this statement, she proposes the research she intends to do at Berkeley, which will be about how patriarchy controlled women's diet and desire for food.
It is interesting to see how the statements used here give an insight into how the female (and consequently) is viewed by women and how feminism drops some truth bombs amidst large amount of misguided critiques and propaganda.
She says that men did not trust women, assuming them to be sexually immoderate, but she also complains about chastity restrictions. She says how women's appetite was controlled, and while women are not creatures who would follow men blindly (because they are not passive agents), they were still suppressed and for evidence, she has all those books expecting female etiquette.
She also talks about women's sexuality and sexual power, and then bemoans women's eroticisation, reducing the emphasis of her own point.
Berkeley has chosen to adapt her statement as a standard for an applicants. While this is another way, in which Berkeley tries to screen on-comers, this study shows how much collectivisation is still present. And this is why individualism is flawed. It is just a false descriptor of reality. If one could evenly match it with the the male view of men (and women), then we would be in intellectual neutral. We aren't and individualism is to be blamed for it.
