I still think Orthodoxy may be a better path for English though.

2019-04-22 17:09:34 UTC

Some of their criticisms of Roman Catholicism do appeal to me.

2019-04-22 17:09:44 UTC

Having a figurehead who is closer to God, and can serve as an inspiration can only bring about good

2019-04-22 17:10:26 UTC

I agree on that we need a proper priesthood. We can't be having average Joe's giving sermons.

2019-04-22 17:10:36 UTC

Look at Pius XII who supported nations such as Spain in their time of need, and helped strengthen the nations faith

2019-04-22 17:11:06 UTC

He called Franco "The savior of civilization"

2019-04-22 17:11:53 UTC

What do you have to say then regarding England and Germany's disgruntlement with Rome, as well as their sister countries within Europe (Scandinavia, Netherlands, etc...)

2019-04-22 17:12:24 UTC

Do you not believe that sometimes Popes went too far?

2019-04-22 17:12:47 UTC

Depends on which ones you are talking about

2019-04-22 17:13:54 UTC

I don't think the divide between Protestantism and Catholicism was the fault of the Catholics if that's what you're asking

2019-04-22 17:13:56 UTC

Well by biggest resentment would be the Norman conquest. We have never actually fully recovered in restoring our ancient traditions. Protestantism of 17th century tapped into it, but went down another path.

2019-04-22 17:16:07 UTC

I believe that there were errors within Medieval Europe, that Popes abused their positions. That Protestantism was stimulated by certain things such as nationalist renewal and that Catholic Church antagonised some of these notions.

2019-04-22 17:16:30 UTC

Half of England wasn't even Catholic at the time

2019-04-22 17:16:36 UTC

Worshipping some Celtic variation

2019-04-22 17:16:56 UTC

In Norman time you mean?

2019-04-22 17:16:59 UTC

Yes

2019-04-22 17:17:31 UTC

England clearly had no means of control over it's own populations religion

2019-04-22 17:17:40 UTC

No unification

2019-04-22 17:17:52 UTC

I don't like the French, but I can agree with a unification of the peoples religion

2019-04-22 17:17:56 UTC

There was some Celtic influence yes, but was predominantly Roman. Don't forget England was a heptarchy and religions conversions usually began with the kings themselves being converted.

2019-04-22 17:18:21 UTC

And Alfred who unified England was Catholic.

2019-04-22 17:18:56 UTC

We have our own affairs, Shade. Enlisting foreigners to attack our own people is treason.

2019-04-22 17:19:11 UTC

This is how Catholicism became viewed as anti-nationalist.

2019-04-22 17:20:02 UTC

I believe the Pope gave his approval based off opportunism and also to reign in on certain things since the schism had recently occurred.

2019-04-22 17:23:16 UTC

The French are pretty filthy. The Anglo may have varies political issues (I.e unhealthy tradition of democracy), but I have to say at least we didn't engage in race mixing like the Continental nations when colonising.

2019-04-22 17:26:47 UTC

I think the French themselves are oppurtunistic, I doubt the Pope was

2019-04-22 17:27:22 UTC

Also the people that engaged in that were the people considered degenerates before even moving there, and no-one supports them
