In an emergency I’m sure you give your left nut for a little bit of extra distance if it’s what you need
With 10 watts and the best antennas money can buy and the most I've gotten out in the desert was 8 miles
Where I live in open farm land with houses you're lucky to get 3 miles
Now that's with hand helds... a 40 watt mobile or base will obviously get you a little more
But 10-15 miles is really it with simplex.
I eventually wanna get one in the car but idk how to wire it
Most plug into the lighter
In what respect? I deal with adaptive equipment in vehicles, may be able to help
so im seeing a ton of mixed answers here. Are UV-5R's trash or what?
They are cheap Chinese radios
let me rephrase that. Are they worth getting if you have nothing?
Yes
The answer is hardly no to that question lol
They can just break easily... in operating conditions they all work the same at the same power levels.
If you have nothing else, they work for emergency comms and talking on the fly. For single channel plain text.
Whats your opinion of BF-F8HP
But for a few hundred you can get some really good ones that are made in Japan instead and are waterproof and tough
What is something i wont destroy in "elk season"
@Yeetasaurus Rex do you get wet often?
always moist my dude
@[CA] SoyBoi I own a few BF8's honestly I love them because if they break it's no sweat
in colo, so mostly dry, but damn when it rains it rains
I've destroyed Motorola's
@Yeetasaurus Rex look into yeasu, find a waterproof one and call it a day
Mines drop dust and water resistant
@[TX]YimYam what rsdio
i used to use xts5000's back in the uniformed days, but as you said, that shits impossible to get setup as a civ
@Yeetasaurus Rex getting them is easy, not cheap, but easy
@[TX]YimYam I've heard good things about those
Only $52 comes with 3800mah battery 2x chargers head set clip and retention strap
Oh and a really antenna out the box
Is there any common channels if SHTF to look out for to see if anyone's out there 🤔 let's say you need help or some shit
Not really
Kinda, but not really
Depends on the area and no guarantee someone is listening
> @redbeard I've been looking at the APX series, but I've always held off because I have 25 licensed UHF channels from the FCC and most of the people I work with use standard UHF channels.
@EDDSkitz nothing about an APX limits you from operating on an analog uhf channel if the radio is a uhf model or multiband model.
