DMR is just digital

2020-05-20 21:40:01 UTC

Oh you already said that

2020-05-20 21:40:25 UTC

T-Rex talked about this last week, definitely something everyone should look into

http://js8call.com/

2020-05-20 21:40:47 UTC

Yeah, DMR can be radio to radio, doesn't need the internet

2020-05-20 21:41:49 UTC

Radio to radio encrypted texting sounds orgasmic.

2020-05-20 21:42:21 UTC

Yeah, just remember they really only have the same range as any 5-10 watt radio

2020-05-20 21:45:14 UTC

Damnit I can't afford to start finding more crap for my wish list lmao

2020-05-20 21:45:47 UTC

😂

2020-05-20 21:46:07 UTC

It never ends.... even the government has a shopping list

2020-05-20 22:08:02 UTC

@Recon_5.11 you watching this live stream? LOTS of good info on here

2020-05-20 22:08:11 UTC

I always like the way these guys think.

2020-05-20 22:08:38 UTC

All stuff I already know, but another good one everyone needs to watch.

2020-05-20 22:28:29 UTC

Oh shit... CivTAK was just publicly released

2020-05-20 23:59:59 UTC

So I just bought a pair of Hesenate radios and I want one more radio that is a step above that for my own personal use so the Hesens can just kinda be thrown at people that need them if things go bad

2020-05-21 00:00:02 UTC

Suggestions

2020-05-21 00:04:06 UTC

What are you looking for in terms of specs?

2020-05-21 00:11:59 UTC

The hesens are my first set so very new to comms

2020-05-21 00:14:18 UTC

Are you meaning Jensen? Hensen isn't a brand I've seen

2020-05-21 00:14:52 UTC

Oh, wait... just googled

2020-05-21 00:15:41 UTC

So you cheaped out on baofengs, the literal cheapest radios known to man. A real baofeng would be a step up.

2020-05-21 00:16:06 UTC

Not trying to hate on you at all... many don't understand there are knock offs that are all trash

2020-05-21 00:16:43 UTC

So, what's your budget for a higher tier radio?

2020-05-21 00:31:26 UTC

As far as I know baofengs and hesens are made in the same factory or at least that's what a friend of mine said

2020-05-21 00:38:45 UTC

Probably not... baofeng has alot of knockoffs for such a cheap radio

2020-05-21 00:39:00 UTC

Retevis is a step up for cheap still

2020-05-21 00:39:25 UTC

Woxun

2020-05-21 00:39:45 UTC

Then you get into kenwood and icom for the mid to high end

2020-05-21 00:40:04 UTC

Really, baofengs are more than 99% of people will ever use

2020-05-21 00:41:59 UTC

They're something to learn on and yeet into a bag if things aren't good

2020-05-21 00:42:16 UTC

Looking for something a step or two up, $100?

2020-05-21 00:42:56 UTC

Hopefully higher range

2020-05-21 01:17:33 UTC

They all have the same range really

2020-05-21 01:17:53 UTC

Feature sets and build quality is what changes

2020-05-21 01:29:56 UTC

I'm up for suggestions, going to use the ones I ordered to get a feel for things

2020-05-21 02:35:41 UTC

The ham radio technician test doesn't look very hard at all. Found a couple phone apps that seem to do a good job of prepping you for the test

2020-05-21 02:36:22 UTC

It's not for the basic level... there are 3 levels though

2020-05-21 02:36:42 UTC

The practice apps are the way to go thoughm

2020-05-21 02:37:00 UTC

Which level is needed to legally use something like a baofeng? The higher class licenses looked to be all lower frequencies

2020-05-21 02:37:48 UTC

"Lower" yes... but HF you can use to literally talk to the other side of the world with no repeater

2020-05-21 02:38:11 UTC

I am very familiar with the physics of it all, just don't know the law part.
