I've noticed a lot of grocery stores around here will donate their deli stuff to the local food shelves with a day or two left before expiration to at least get a tax write-off.

It was all donated from local Walmart to the tigers but would allow the workers to grab first lol

I mean most expiration dates are a "we guarantee it'll be good by this date". I've had canned soup seven years past expiration no problem. I understand fresh meat is different though.
