Personally, I find the darker attributes of the Alpine Germans to be rather appealing. Almost Saxon. Of course, they aren't swarthy, just darker in color.

I do too. It depends. I like how sleek and convenient many modern things can be but, they are rarely anywhere near as deeply beautiful as older architecture, it never lasts anywhere near as long and the best of modern architecture borrows from and builds off of ancient architecture without making a fake veneer of the house being something it isn't.
