Why devolved? The all seeing eye on a pyramid isn't far from how you all see the self and society as a hierarchy with the mind at the top lording over the passions and the desires of the body at the base of the stack. Part and parcel of that is being mindful of the unruly matter so you can brow beat it into submission.
